sumit411 I would like to help you out in this question mate

Poor reading skills among students of inner-city schools have not resulted from failures in teaching but insufficiently supportive home environments.

(A) not resulted from failures in teaching but - INCORRECT as parallelism issue not resulted but insufficiently

(B) resulted not from failures in teaching but from - CORRECT, parallel in structure not from X, but from Y. Also it is giving the intended meaning of the sentence

(C) resulted from failures not in teaching but - INCORRECT as meaning change completely. Also parallelism violation "not in X, but insufficiently ( Not is followed by preposition and but is followed by adverb ( Insufficiently)

(D) resulted from failures not in teaching but have stemmed from - INCORRECT as meaning change , parallelism violation (Not is followed by preposition and but is followed by verb)

(E) resulted not from failures in teaching but have stemmed from - INCORRECT , Parallelism issue ( not is followed by preposition and but is followed by verb)

Kindly give kudos if my explanation helped buddy :-)

Conclusion

IN MOST CASES it is much, MUCH better to follow one`s ear :) the strategy didnt work AT ALL for me. the B option sounded BEST actually. so it was just an experiment.

MANHATTAN REVIEW OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:

This question deals primarily with parallel structure. You can say something has resulted not from x but from y. The only answer choice that maintains parallel structure is B. B is the correct answer.

Poor reading skills among students of inner-city schools have [#permalink]
Question: Poor reading skills among students of inner-city schools have not resulted from failures in teaching but insufficiently supportive home environments.

(A) not resulted from failures in teaching but- The parallelism structure not from X but from Y is violated here.

(B) resulted not from failures in teaching but from- The parallelism structure issue is fixed.

(C) resulted from failures not in teaching but- Illogical, changes the meaning of the sentence.

(D) resulted from failures not in teaching but have stemmed from- The parallelism structure not from X but from Y is violated here.

(E) resulted not from failures in teaching but have stemmed from- parallelism structure not from X but from Y is violated here.

The correct answer is option B.

Please give kudos if you found my answer helpful :)
