Hi,

I recently took the GMAT and scored a 730 (50Q, 39V) and would love to target Wharton, Columbia, and NYU and not sure if I should retake the test. I have an undergrad GPA of 3.43 in Finance and will have been working 5 years in IT Sales at matriculation.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed response! What was your quant percentile? If it's above or near 80th, I don't think you need to retake. A 730 is a great score and your quant is solid. Unless your verbal percentile is really bad, I'd stick with what you have.

Hi,

They do tend to weight quant more than verbal, but they also look for balance between the scores. So, if your verbal is really skewed below your quant, it could help to bring them into better balance, even if it meant taking a slight hit on quant. Make sense?

Hi Mili,

Thanks so much for your reply. My quant score is a 50 which I believe was 90th percentile. I think I am taking it again because my verbal was a 39 and I think I have more room to improve on verbal. Are you asking about the quant score because these schools tend to favor quant scores? I'm not sure what they prefer. Would it hurt me if I raised my overall score but my quant went down a bit?
