Profile Evaluation MSF 2020 Intake

Go for it man. Issue you will find isn't push back, but a clear issue a school will have between their MBA and MSF admissions people. Vanderbilt accepting you in their MSF would take from their MBA. Same with UTA. This is why most top MBA programs do not have an MSF. They don't need them and don't want to steal from their premier program.

You will have better luck in Europe though. Or you could do BC's PT MSF. Or Georgetown's Online MSF. They tend to accept candidates with more work experience.

Thought I would provide some feedback to act as a data point for people in a similar situation.

A few of the B-schools I applied to did suggest the MBA as a better alternative to the MSF.

LBS shut me down straight away for the MFA, "too old".

Got accepted with scholarship money from:
ASU W.P. Carey (25% tuition scholarship)
UT Dallas (20% tuition scholarship)
Purdue Krannert (95% tuition scholarship)
Simon (MBA 85% tuition scholarship)

Got denied at:
Cass
Warwick
Cranfield
Imperial
Vanderbilt (got the feeling that if I let Vanderbilt change me to the MBA as they suggested I would have got in)

After considering my options I feel Simon is the best fit for me. My age and experience are far more typical of an MBA candidate than of an MSF candidate which means as an MBA graduate I will raise fewer eyebrows during recruiting. Post MBA salary is far ahead of MSF salary. An MSF would go over most of the coursework I have already covered with the CFA program, but with the MBA I could cover topics I haven't seen before and hone my soft skills. The MBA includes an internship, which is a great opportunity for a career switcher to get some relevant experience and hopefully secure a fulltime offer before graduation.
