Re: Quant Question of the Day Chat [#permalink]
Not sure, if a post for this is already there in the forum or not. But I can help quickly, whenever we think of the domain of a function, we need to think what is the range of the values that the given function can take as an argument or input. In the given function there are 3 square roots and we know in GMAT the square root can take up only non-negative numbers. Thus you have 3 conditions, for the 3 roots, in this question (1) sqrt(x+2) - sqrt(4-x) ≧ 0 (2) x+2 ≧ 0(3) 4-x ≧ 0. Solving for ranges of x we get, from (1) x+2 ≧ 4-x => x ≧ 1 (2) x ≧ -2 (3) x ≦ 4. After checking the overlap in values between these 3 inequalities you’ll get choice D. However the inequality should be 1 ≦ x ≦ 4

Hi, is there a record of explaination of the following quant question which is part of the practice exam 2: Q: The domain of the function f(x) = sqrt((sqrt(x+2) - sqrt(4 - x)) in the set of all real numbers x such that: A: -2 < x < 1, -2 < x < 4, 1 < x < 2, 1 < x < 4, 2 < x < 4 Thank you!

Does anyone know how to answer this one (part of the exam 5 practice)? if x and y are integers and if (x-y)^2 + 2y^2 = 27 , which of the following could be the value of x?

possible answer: -2, -1, 3, 4, 5.

Thank you for your help!
