The higher overall score is assigned to people who do well on both sections, not just one of them. You can't just add the scores up.

Although doctor/lawyer implies doctor OR lawyer, I'm assuming that Tarmac meant to imply the odds of becoming both.

The probability of A or B = A+B
The probability of A and B = A*B
