Hi again!
I had previously shared my experience with my first attempt in the forum
here..
After taking a few days off from preparation, I reviewed my ESR and confirmed that my verbal score could have gone much better if I managed my timing better(I moved too quickly and didn't stop to re-read a passage). I scheduled the exam for the 14th and with just over a month remaining, I decided to practice all the sections in Quant and Verbal with special focus on RC. I picked up a couple of simple novels/ literature to get used to retaining info from passages, and for quant I simply noted down a few equations that I seem to always forget. Just a week from the exam I took my official mock #5 and scored a 760(Q50 V44).
Yay! I started patting myself on the back and got lax with my revisions. I decided to watch the new Thor movie and take the remaining mock #6 the same evening. That's when things started spiraling down. I started the exam and at the first sign of difficulty I panicked. I was worried I couldn't score another 760(+) and kept thinking about that. By the end of the exam a 660 was flashing on my screen. Looking back at it now, I am glad I scored so low(lowest of all my mocks), because that made me realize I shouldn't get cocky. I took a few deep breathes and shut down my laptop. With 3 days remaining, I mentally blocked the 660 and kept casually solving 2-3 problems per section per day until the day before.
The day of, I started at my home early so I could get some time to do some light-reading. But unfortunately it started pouring on my way(monsoon in India), and I had to stop at a bus stop because I was traveling via motorcycle. By the time I got to the center it was 9AM(the test's at 9:30). To add to that, my passport wasn't getting scanned and I had to waste a few more minutes to send a scanned copy from my google drive to the test administrator. Sat down at last and began the verbal section of the exam. I started off well in the section, but as the questions got tougher I tried to be more and more careful. Halfway through verbal, I was having the worst pacing I've ever had in any of my exams. I tried to pick it up, but by the end, I had mere seconds left. After the break, I got comfortable with my quant and the whole section felt much much easier than my verbal. 2 hours later, I was relieved to see a 740 on my screen.
Overall, I'd say I'm somewhat satisfied with my performance. I don't think I want to retake anymore for maybe 20-30 points. Off I go for applications!
