Re: Seniors Plz help..Really fighting with Verbal and Timing.. [#permalink]
Honestly, I am not convinced that verbal might drop that bad .

Quote:
Today i got 590 again (Q49.V23) and got 8 Questions incorrect in Verbal out of last 12 Qs.

from my understanding, you might have a concentration issue - had the same during my prepraration, lost motivation & concentration over time - during the real test the situation was 100% different: i remained concentrated and focussed because of the "test-environment".

nevertheless, would focus on verbal, especially SC & CR. there is absolutely no guarantee that you are able to hit your 700 target on august 7, but i would still see it as possible & realistic.

You need to focus on each question type separately - CR, SC, RC.
no, I would not schedule for Aug 7th unless you believe in miracles

The verbal is our main concern. But before I offer any recommendation, could you tell us which verbal guides have you studied with so far? And how do you answer and review each verbal question?

Hi Bmillan01 ,

In SC , i ve done Manhattan SC 2-3 times and then did OG10 and OG12 once . In both the official guides i ve thoroughly analyzed each wrong ans along with the Correct one and got around 75-80 % success rate in both.

In CR , i ve done Powerscore CR bible twice , gone through OG 12 once and part of OG10 as well..
In CR initially i was able to guess or predict the ans after reading the Q of OG12 but after some days i think just because of a little hurry or so i stopped predicting and started directly going to ans choices to look for the right ans or used POE to eliminate wrong ans and get to the right one which i think is hurting my performance in GmatPrep.

In RC , if i take a time of around 15-20 min in 1 RC having 5-6 Qs i am able to get 4/6 or 5/6 correct but i think i ve to get the time down to nearly 10 min for 1 RC..

During GMATprep i am not able to use my brain even in simple SC & CR due to which i miss them & in last 10 to 12 Qs i get around 8-10 incorrect due to rushing , resulting from less amount of time left..

Regards

V42, Q48

But again: During my preparation I NEVER did to manage to remain motivated/concentrated for the verbal part and had similar figures in the end (bad/stupid mistakes within the last 10-15 questions, failure ratio >50%-70%)

I dont think that one can say this in general and for everyone, but from my understanding, a 3month preparation incl. really intensive studying hours could result in exactly that image...

A 75 to 80 percent success rate in SC is pretty solid. But, if possible, it might help to read Manhattan one last time, or at least the sections in which you have the most trouble. I wouldn't read the CR again, though. Perhaps you just need more practice. GMATClub forums have hundreds of CR and SC questions along with full explanations. Try to answer ten per day, and fully explain your answer and why the other choices are wrong. This will reinforce the material, because you are practicing with more questions and fully explainingthem. Even if you're basically copying a previous post, put it in your own words. This helps.

For RC, the best thing to do is practice. I'm a big fan of LSAT RC questions because the passages are very long and complex. The questions can also be more difficult. Once you're comfortable with LSAT RC, then GMAT RC shouldn't be a problem.

Also, be sure to keep an Error Log and record exactly what type of CR, SC, or RC question you get wrong. If one question takes more than 2 minutes, then answer it anyway, but mark it as incorrect and redo it later. Use the GMAT Timer for this. Whenever you are ready, time yourself to determine your base. After that, try to reduce the question time by a few seconds for each verbal practice session.

And whenever you have time, read some GMAT Fiction. It helps, but in a very subtle way.

Here is the some info about the GMAT Timer:

Hey Sag,
Get the 1000RC,CR,SC series. Nobody mentions them anywhere and I dont know why. I got to know about them only after I took my GMAT. PM me your email, I will send them to you. They are good for practice if you are done with OG. I have been doing 3 passage daily, 20 Cr and 20 SC under times conditions. And keep an error log. Keep practicing man. Declare a war on verbal.
