Let, Monday temp = a
Tuesday temp = b
Wednesday temp = c
Thursday temp = d
Friday Temp = e

a+b+c+d = 38*4
b+c+d+e = 40*4

i.e. e - a = 40*4 - 38*4 = 8

given, a = 30

e = 8+30 = 38

Answer: Option C

Monday + Tuesday + Wednesday + Thursday = 152
Tuesday + Wednesday + Thursday + Friday = 160

Given, the temperature on Monday was 30 degree

So, 40 + (Tuesday + Wednesday + Thursday) = 152

Or, Tuesday + Wednesday + Thursday = 112

Now, we know ( Tuesday + Wednesday + Thursday ) + Friday = 160

Or, 112 + Friday = 160

Or, Friday = 38, Answer must be (C)

m+t+w+th= 38*4 ; 152

and t+w+th+f= 40*4 ; 160
so
m= 30
then t+w+th = 152-30; 122
so f ; 160-122; 38

Since M + T + W + Th = 38 x 4 = 152 and T + W + Th + F = 40 x 4 = 160, we see that:

T + W + Th + F - (M + T + W + Th) = F - M

160 - 152 = F - 30

8 = F - 30

38 = F


Alternate Solution:

We have

M + T + W + Th = 38 x 4 = 152.

Since M = 30, then 30 + T + W + Th = 152; thus:

T + W + Th = 122.

Now, in the equation T + W + Th + F = 160, let’s substitute 122 for T + W + Th. Then,

122 + F = 160,

which implies that F = 160 - 122 = 38.

Answer: C
