who,whose,whom and that are noun referents.
Hence who refers to pilgrims here and visit is plural form used here.

the number of is singular hence increases is correct usage.

Thus option C and E prevail.

E increasing yearly is not concise usage. Hence POE.

Thus C is crystal.

why visit and not visits..??
"the number of"...........is supposed to be taken as singular....isnt it..??


The number of +who/that ..verb( plural)
hence visit
Leaves us with A C and E
The number of ... is singular , hence Increases
leaves us the C and E
contruction in E is awkward
C is clear

The number....singular
pilgrims.....plural
"who" modifies pilgrims, not "the number"

A number of X : Plural

The number of X : Singular

The number of X THAT/ WHO : Verb agrees in number with X

ie : The number of PILGRIMS WHO ........................... = X Pilgrims ( Plural ) preceede WHO = Thus the verb should agree with plural pilgrims ie Plural ( VISIT ).

In the underlined part, pilgrims is plural. So the verb "visit/visits" should qualify pilgrims. Since pilgrims is plural, the correct verb is "visit"

C, Just remember that it refers to the subject pilgrims and thus if thats written in plural form, the verb has to be written according to its plural form aswell inorder forit to match

Number -> singular. Hence visit and increases.

The number increases every year....so left with c and d option.

number of - singular
pilgrims - plural

Hence we need "visit" and "increases"

Its a clear C
