The number of timeshare condos available at Sunset Beach is 3/5 the number of timeshare condos available at Playa del Mar. If the total number of timeshare condos available at the two beaches combined is 240, what is the difference between the number of condos available at Sunset Beach and the number of condos available at Playa del Mar?

A. 60
B. 90
C. 120
D. 150
E. 240

We can let the the number of available condos at Sunset Beach = b and the number available at Playa del Mar = p.

We can create the following equations:

b = 3p/5

and

b + p = 240

Thus:

3p/5 + p = 240

Multiplying by 5, we have:

3p + 5p = 1200

8p = 1200

p = 150

Thus, b = 3(150)/5 = 90, so the difference is 150 - 90 = 60.

Kudos for correct solution.

Let the number of timeshare condos available at Playa del Mar be 5
So, the number of timeshare condos available at Sunset Beach is 3

Thus, the total number of timeshare condos available at the two beaches combined is 8 , which is equivalent to 240

So, the difference between the number of condos available at Sunset Beach and the number of condos available at Playa del Mar will be

\(\frac{(5-3)}{8}*240\)

= \(60\), answer must be (A)

Condos on palaya be x =5x/5
Condos on sunset be 3x/5
Total=240
8x/5=240
Difference = 5x/5 - 3x/5 = 2x/5 = 60
Ans:a
