The owners of a local supermarket have decided to make use of three now-redundant checkout counters. The premise to support a conclusion of an argument

They believe that they will attract those customers who lately have been put off by the long checkout lines during the mid-morning and evening rush hours. main point advocated by the author

The owners have concluded that in order to be successful, the increased revenue from existing and added counters will have to more than the increase in maintenance costs for the added counters again premise to support conclusion

Answer looks like A, need guidance and insights!!

Even though I marked E as it's the only choice that comes close to being the right answer, I have problems with it.

The underlying goal is not to increase profits as such, but the goal is to increase customer service to those customers who used to come to store during rush hours.

The mere statement that if they want to be successful, they will have to profit(revenue-cost) doesn't indicate anything as it is not clear that whether they want to be successful or not. If they want to, they must profit. If they don't want to be successful, it doesn't matter whether they profit or not.

Probably being successful could be underlying goal. But then again, I will look for a Choice that says --satisfying those customers who come at rush hours--.

A precisely fulfils your ambition of cutomer service to those elite customers who are rather too busy in their life. That is indded the underlyig goal for re-commissioning idle counters.

I think the OA is E here as in A it is mentioned that improve services to all customers. This might not be the case as some customers who despite of having to stand in a longer queue visited the store. Maybe the food is fresh or there are no other store with such good rates.

The premise also mentions about some irate customers who don't wish to stand in the long queues so opening other counters would help in faster billing which would increase the revenue and specifically satisfy these irate customers. So if the option was improve services for these customers, it would have been a better choice.

Also as a business owner you're firs lookout is the profit IMO.

Though I chose 'A' at first but I believe the OA suggests the correct ans to be 'E' because the paragraph says 'They believe that they will attract those customers who lately...'. The word 'attract' suggests the intention of owners which is to have more customers---> more profits rather than a good-will to serve customers better

I think, Option A makes more sense.
