Let D = $ 100

She spent on blouse: (20/100) * 100 = $ 20 .... (1)

Remaining amount that she has: $ 80

Of this 25% ie 1/4 she spent on shoes. So amount that she spent on shoes = $ 80 * (1/4) = $ 20 . .. (2)

Total amount spent = (1) + (2) = $40 and 40/100 = 40%

Spent on shoes: 0.25(1-0.2)D=0.25*0.8 D= 0.2D
Total spent = 0.2D+0.2D =0.4D i.e, 40 % of D dollars.... Ans B

Blouse = 20

Remaining = 80

Shoes = 80 * 25% = 20

Total expenditure = 40 .

So, she spends 40% of the D.

The correct answer is B.

Total amount she has is D dollars.

so she spent 0.2D remains 0.8D. From the remaining she spent 25%

0.8 = 4/5

4/5 * 1/4 = 1/5 means another 20%

She spent 0.2D + 0.2D = 0.4D

Let D = 100

Amount spent on Blouse = 20 ; Amount Left = 80
Amount spent on Shours = 20 ; Amount Left = 60

Thus, Amount spent is 40; Answer must be (B) 40 %

No need to solve. Look at the choices.
It can't be A. since we have spent 20% already.
The total spent is 20% + 25% = 45%, but we have spent 25% of a lesser amount.
Hence the max can be 45% which is C
So the answer must be B 40%

100 ,after blouse 80 , 80x .25 = 20, 20 +20 = 40%

1/4(D-1/5D) =1/5D
Therefore, 1/5D + 1/5D=2/5D
percentage will be
2/5D x 100 = 40%

Taking D as 100
20% of D=20
25% of Remaining 80=20
Total money spent =40
40/100=40%

Let total money = 100 dollars
Spent 20% of her money on a blouse -> $20 dollars spent
Remaining money = 100- 20 = $80
25% of what was left on a pair of shoes -> 25% of 80 =20
Total money spent = 20+ 20 = $40
Per cent of the original money she spend = 40/100 *100 = 40%

20% on Blouse => 20 spent.

=> 100 - 20 = 80 left

25% of remaining on shoes => 20 spent

=> 80-20 = 60 left.

Overall spending : 40

If D = $100

Money spent on blouses = 20/100*100 = $20 ---- (1)

Remaining amount = $100 - $20 = $80

Money spent on buying shoes = 25/100*80 = $20 ---- (2)

Total amount spent = (1) + (2) = $40 = 40% of D dollars
