B, D & E are sure out.

'During recent times',- points out to wrong time.
'In the times that are recent'- Awkward.
sentence E - Awkward construction.

In sentence D, though I think 'Up until recently' is correct, 'leading nomadic existence' is in present tense. Which does not coincide with rest of the sentence.

Hence, A. Correct phrase & tense.
