Hi everyone, Took GMAT yesterday and got a very disappointing score (560 Q44 v22). Need help / suggestions on how can I improve verbal score significantly (40 plus target score in verbal) to get to my dream score. I would like to attempt one more time in the next 35-45 days but before that I would like to get my act together in verbal area. Is it even possible to see improvement in verbal in this short period. Personally I still have hopes that I can improve 150-180 points with right direction in verbal.
Here is some background on my practice tests etc..
GMAT Tests:
• 2012 January: Q48 V 24 (600) (Not so serious at that time and forgot about it later completely) • 2017 October: Q44 V22 (560) (started thinking of giving GMAT again from this June only)
Study Material:
• SC: Manhattan Review SC / OG 13th edition / OG Verbal Review 2018 • CR: PowerScore Bible / OG 13th edition / OG Verbal Review 2018 • RC: OG 13th edition • PS: OG 13th edition • DS: OG 13th edition • IR: not much preparation done and only looked 4-5 questions and pattern • AWA: just looked at the pattern in OG book and that’s about it
Practice Tests: • MGMAT: 6 • OG Prep Tests: 2 • IR and AWA not touched at all during practice tests
Practice Test Results:
All these tests were taken in the last two months.
OG Prep Test V Q Score 1 23 49 600 2 27 49 640 Avg. 25.0 49.0 620.0
Accuracy in preparation:
In OG 13th edition practice questions, Quant accuracy was up to 80 percent while verbal was about 65-70 percent (CR: 66%; SC: 68%; RC:85%) Time spent on preparation: • 30-60 min per day for about 6-8 weeks for verbal (Manhattan SC and CR PowerScore Bible) • 30-60 min per day for about 1 week for quant (just revised basics)
Strong / Consistent areas:
• Quant: not much preparation yet scored 49 in both OG Prep tests and time wise looked very good. Accuracy-wise also it looked ok. In both OG prep tests I finished quants 10-12 minutes before time! Since my first practice test, quant solving time improved dramatically.
Weak / Inconsistent areas:
• Plenty of room for improvement in DS • PS accuracy can still be improved • RC/CR/SC: accuracy looked better and consistent in OG practice questions but was worse and inconsistent in practice tests • IR needs to be explored more thoroughly Other factors that may be affecting my exam performance:
• Concentration level is dipping slightly after seeing wordy and mouthful questions • Confidence level may be dipping after perceiving falling accuracy level in first few questions • Didn’t like the exam centre ambience this time around. Had to sit beside a window with full sun light coming in.
