Let x=2/5 of volume of one glass (v) V= ??

3/5 of 4lt bucket is distributed in 3 identical glass

3x = (3/5)*4 Therefor x= 4/5 lts ( 2/5)*v=4/5 therefore v=2 lts

Method I

Since bucket's capacity is 4 ltr. and it must be 2/5th full

2/5th of 4 ltr. = 8/5

Remaining water is divided into 3 glasses Therefore,
4 - 8/5 = 12/5 is divided into 3 glasses equally

Each glass contains (12/5)/3 = 4/5 ltr.

Since each of the 3 glasses are filled till 2/5th of its capacity

capacity * 2/5 = 4/5
capacity = 2 ltr.

Method II : Percentages

Since after the transfer of water the bucket must be 2/5th full i.e. 40% = 0.4*4 = 1.6 ltr
Remaining water i.e. 4-1.6 = 2.4 ltr must be divided into 3 glasses equally
Each glass will contain 2.4/3 = 0.8 ltr
Since each glass is 40% full we have
0.4*capacity = 0.8
capacity = 2ltr

Hence option C is correct

let x=glass capacity
(3/5*4)/3=4/5 liter in each glass
4/5=2x/5
x=2 liters

Water is poured from the 4-liter bucket until the bucket is 2/5 full.
This means that 3/5 of the water was POURED OUT
In other words: volume of water POURED OUT = 3/5 of 4 liters = (3/5)(4) = 12/5 liters

Those 12/5 liters of water are poured into 3 identical glasses, so ...
... the volume of water poured into ONE GLASS = 1/3 of 12/5 = (1/3)(12/5) = 12/15 = 4/5 liters
In other words, each glass contains 4/5 of water.

Let C = the capacity of one glass
Since each glass is only 2/5 full, we can write: 2/5 of C = 4/5 liters of water
Rewrite as: (2/5)C = 4/5
Solve: C = (4/5)/(2/5) = (4/5)(5/2) = 2

(Step 1) calculate how many liters are in the bucket

4 liters and (2/5) or 40% remains in. The bucket

10% ——-> 0.4
40% ——-> 1.6

2.4 liters is then poured evenly into 3 glasses.

(2.4) / 3 = .8 liters per glass


This .8 liters in each glass only represents 40% of the Capacity if the Glass

.8 = (40%) (C)

.8 = .4 (C)

C = 2 Liters per glass

Capacity of Glass=x
Number of Glasses=3
Total Liters=4
2/5 of the bucket=4*2/5=8/5
Equation, 3(2/5)x+8/5=4
x=2 liters
