Would it be weird to retake a 750?

I want to first thank the GMAT Club community for being an awesome resource. The treasure trove of information available on the forum made my life so much easier, and was really helpful in my score improvement from a 640 to a 750.

I don't want to give the impression that I'm not happy with a 750- that's far from the truth. I had, however, initially planned to take the exam twice- once to familiarize myself with what it's like to take an actual test, and the second time for keeps, with the goal of scoring around 730 the first time and 770 the second time. I was actually so certain about this strategy that I already registered for my second exam before I took the test today.

I definitely feel that there are topics in Quant that I could be a lot more solid in. Verbal was good, but I basically didn't study it at all, so there would also likely be some marginal improvement. I got an 8 in IR, which is a very pleasant surprise and probably in the higher end of what I'm capable of, but I'm not sure how much weight that should have on my decision.

Ultimately, if given another month to study, I'm pretty confident that I can score in the 760-800 range. I have three main questions: Firstly, assuming I do score a 770+ the second time, would my decision to retake a 750 be counted as a negative indication of overperfectionism by admissions committees? Secondly, if I don't score as well the second time around, would I have the choice of only showing the schools the 750 score in the future? Lastly, how much of an advantage would a 780 even have over a 750? One would think the additional 30 points may be well past the post of diminishing returns.
