let m=daily rate of 1 man
10*4m=1
m=1/40
let w=daily rate of 1 woman
10(2/40+3w)=1
w=1/60
let d=number of days for 3 men and 3 women
d(3/40+3/60)=1
d=8 days

3 men and 3 women will definitely get the job done in less time than 2 men and 3 women, who can finish the job in 10 days. The only answer choice that is less than 10 days is A, 8 days.

Answer: A

Could somebody please explain the conventional method for the problem?

Step 1.
Rate of work for man can be calculated with data in stem.
Step 2.
Rate of work for man and women combined is also given in stem.
Step 3.
Thus rate for women to be calculated as rate of women=Rate of both - Rate of man
Step 4.
Since rate of man and women are known we can calculate rate for 3 men and 3 women and thus time required( time = 1/Rate)

Assume,
Total Work = 120 units
4 men take 10 days to complete 120 units.
i.e 4 men complete 12 units a day
or each men does 3 units a day.

AND
2 men and 3 women take 10 days to complete 120 units.
i.e. 2M & 3W complete 12 units a day.
Since each men does 3 units a day, 2 men do 6 units a day. And 3 women do remaining 6 units a day i.e. each women does 2 units a day.

So 3 men do (3*3) 9 units a day and 3 women do (2*3) 6 units a day. In total, 15 units a day by 3 men & 3 women.
So, 3 men & 3 women will take (120/15) 8 days to complete the work.

Number of workers and time taken to complete a work are inversely related.
If more workers are involved, it will take less time to complete the work.
Here, 2 men and 3 women take 10 days to complete the work. If you employ 1 more male worker (now 3 men & 3 women), it will take less time i.e. less than 10 days.
Only option A fits.

2m+3w= 4m
3w = 2m
3w +3m=2m+3m=5m
4m can do it in 10 days so 5m will do it 4*10/5=8 days
