Hi Soubhik_Bardhan,

Quite a few people have been reporting a drop in their actual scores as compared to their mock scores lately. It will definitely be a good idea to look at the ESR to see what exactly happened during the test. Once you get it you can analyze your ESR using the 3-step analysis method. The decision of taking the test again or no depends on your goals. To get to an answer, you may first want to answer the below mentioned questions:
    1. What is the median score of the programs you want to apply to?
    2. Would you be applying for Scholarships?

If you decide to re-take the exam and need help in creating a personalized strategy, write to us on support@e-gmat.com with the following details:
    1. ESR
    2. Target score
    3. Amount of time you will be devoting towards prep until your next attempt

I NEVER got as low a V30 in any mock. Has this happened to anyone before (Almost a 100 point drop from GMAT Prep scores)?

Sorry to hear about the test-day letdown, Soubhik_Bardhan. I'm not sure if this helps at all, but this is incredibly common. The "I just kicked the GMAT in the balls!" posts get all of the attention, but every one of those posts, there are several that have exactly the same issue as you encountered. Here's one with almost exactly the same title, for example.

I think Chris is probably asking the right questions above. Maybe check out this article too, and see if anything (maybe reason #7?) looks familiar?

Good luck with your retake, and just know that you are absolutely not alone in your struggles.

Hi everyone,

I had given GMAT, a year back and scored a 700 (Q49, V36). i was preparing over the last month to retake the exam. I took it just today and shockingly managed a 650 (Q49, V30). I've taken GMAT Prep mocks along with some of Manhattan, Veritas and Kaplan free mocks.

GMAT Preps Dates Total Q/V
GMAT Prep 6 05/09/18 750 50/40
GMAT Prep 5 03/09/18 760 50/44
GMAT Prep 4 27/08/18 730 49/41
GMAT Prep 3 21/08/18 750 51/40
GMAT Prep 2 17/08/18 750 50/41

All my GMAT Prep mock scores ranged from (730- 750) as shown above, whereas the Manhattan mock scores ranged from (670-690), with Veritas and Kaplan free mocks being 700 and 710 respectively. All tests were taken in actual-like testing conditions. I was taking the GMAT Prep test scores as a standard and was fairly confident of my scores. I'm pretty sure that I wasn't under too much of test anxiety though I still can't believe the 650 I got! I obviously cancelled the score since the 700, I got a year back is way better. I'm still waiting on my ESR though I'm also not sure whether I should just retake the test once more. I NEVER got as low a V30 in any mock. Has this happened to anyone before (Almost a 100 point drop from GMAT Prep scores)? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

I gave my exam on October 24th and the exact thing happened to me.I scored a 720 on my first attempt and a 650 on the recent retake. I gave the Kaplan free mock CAT a week before and scored a 710 and a GMAT Prep 3 three days before the main exam and scored a 750 (Q51 V41).

Please tell me you gave the exam again and that this attempt was just a harsh fluke.
I'm really confused about giving the exam again.
