Considering set to be 1,2,3,4,5
% decrease turns out to 0.5/3 after removing greatest number

1, 2, 3, 4, 5
average is 3

1, 2, 3, 4
average is 2.5

(3 - 2.5)/3 x 100 = 16.6

Answer is E

Good question Stonecold. 1+2+3+4+5 = 15/3 (Avg of 3) 1...4 = 10/4 (avg of 2.5) Decrease of 0.5

0.5/3 or 5/30 = 1/6 or 16.67%

(10/4)/(15/5)=5/6
1-(5/6)=1/6=16.6 % decrease

The original average = (1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5)/5 = 3.

The new average = (1 + 2 + 3 + 4)/4 = 2.5

(2.5 - 3)/3 x 100 = -0.5/3 x 100 = -1/6 x 100 ≈ -16.7

We see that the average is decreased by approximately 16.7%.
