Thanks thedeadlyone! I am not really sure how Cornell operates.. Going through the previous pages, I found a good number of applicants from India receiving the final call in R1... Found only one other applicant from India who received the call in R2... m sure there r many more out there...

I submitted R3 on time but one of my recommendors was abroad and submitted today, does Cornell have a grace period with the recommendations?
Thanks

I don't know that they will say anything officially, but based on the experiences of others you should be fine as long as the rest of your app was in by the deadline.

Wow. Good thing I applied for the 2nd round. A lotta people jumping in for the 3rd :)

Ariel:

1. How's internship situation looking for the class of 2012, especially for finance people? Also, can you tell us which companies came to campus?

2. One of the immersion programs, CMAM, looks very stock market-oriented (vs. real estate). Does the program cover real estate finance as well or is it strictly corporate finance?

Thank you,

1) Closed lists are coming out right now, that's where we are in the recruiting cycle. It's early to talk about offers but I think we're in a good spot. About 40-50% of the class will likely get offers over the next 6-8 weeks (on-campus recruiting), the rest will likely get them through off-campus later on in the cycle (i.e. March, even April). I have no doubt that almost everyone will get an internship (same at every other decent school), the question then becomes whether people got the offers they wanted or they had to settle.

Re companies that recruit on campus, depends on what area of finance you're referring to. For Corporate Finance Citi, JP Morgan, AMEX are huge of the financial services. There are also a bunch of CPGs (Unilever, P&G, Johnson and Johnson, SC Johnson) and pharmas (Merck, Synthes) are recruiting for corporate finance. Re IB, Cornell is a core school at some of the bb-s, so I'm sure we'll get offers there. This year there are a few boutique ones coming to campus as well, which traditionally has been more challenging in the past, since these are small shops and we don't have a lot or any alums. Re S&T there are BNP Paribas, TD Securities and a few others. Equity research is very limited on campus, most people do off-campus. Anything IM related, we have relationships with Fidelity, PIMCO, etc a lot of the money managers in the Boston area. There are also a bunch of international treks (UK, far East Asia, Turkey, Columbia), so there are international opps as well.

2) CMAM is for people interested in S&T, ER and IM mainly. I havent heard of a lot of people who want to go in real estate and in my opinion it's not the best program if your interests lie there. Some folks interested in real estate do the IB immersion instead. I believe there is also a dual program, which might be more suitable. What exactly in the real estate arena are you looking to do?

For Ariel or any other current student:

I was planning to visit campus next week but just learned that it's winter break until the 21st. Have most students left campus for the break? Do you think it would be better to postpone my visit until after classes resume? I'd like to go asap to show my interest in the program before my app is reviewed, but I also want to get the most out of the visit.

Thanks!

brainhurt, the 21st is when 2nd years come back to campus. Our immersions start this week. For instance, I'm heading over to Ithaca within the hour as the managerial finance immersion starts tomorrow. I'm sure there will be folks you can talk to (only first years though). PM me if you're coming if you want and I'll make sure to put you in touch with the right people. I'm sorry I'm trying to remember what you want to do post-MBA? Some immersions start a bit later than others and people go on treks but there will be students on campus this week for sure.

Thank you, Ariel for the answer :)

My plan is to go into RE investment (but I can settle for RE IB, what the hell :-D ), and my friend who is class of 2012 and also an admission ambassador told me that regardless of RE IM or capital market-related IM (fixed-income, equity, etc), CMAM is the one for those trying to get into investment management. Maybe he was wrong? @.@

Your friend is correct. Sorry, I shouldn't have used abbreviations above, it makes it unclear. CMAM is for people interested in Sales &Trading, Equity Research and Investment Management mainly. So yes, CMAM is the immersion you need for investment management.
