*Interview complete!!*

Interview Questions I was asked: (I think some of mine might have been different b/c I manage engagement teams, etc)
- Why MBA?
- Why Tuck? Why now?
- Describe your career path to date, why have you done whatever you did?
- Tell me about a time when someone on your team was difficult to work with, what did you do to address the issue, why? As the manager, how was your role different than if you were just an ordinary team member?
- When you manage a team, what are the different components you have to balance? How do you keep the team working wee? How is a large team different than a smaller one from a managerial side?
- WHat are you most proud of on your resume?
- What do you do outside work?
- What ECs do you want to do at Tuck?

Words of wisdom from the Q&A session:
- essays should have clarity of purpose, be sincere, show evidence of a desire to collaborate/give back to Tuck
- GPA and GMAT do not reflect leadership ability or potential, they're just a part of the app
- make sure you proofread
- watch your tone - make sure its reflective of your desired tone; also, don't be too cutesy or too academic

Other random notes:
- I was the only female prospective student there (given there were around 20 or so of us, I expected 2-3 girls but no, just me)
- around 75% students do intramural hockey on the tripod team (they offer classes for people like me who have ice-related coordination issues)
- there are tunnels! they connect the first year dorms to the Tuck building so in winter you don't have to go outside if you don't want to!

hope this helps :)

Question!

How did you guys fill out the self-reported transcript form? I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to enter my transcripts.

Did you guys put each semester in a separate "sample term"? If so, how did you enter courses that ran a full year? Did you put it in each "sample term"? How did you calculate the GPA?

I took summer classes too, but if I start to break each term up, I don't think I'll have enough space since there are 15 "sample terms".

I was thinking of cramming each year into a "sample term", but then I'd have to start inserting extra cells.

Help!

RF

these forms are really ridiculous. What I did:
- I put each semester in a separate sample term.
- I put summer classes as their own term and called them "Summer Term"
- My transcript from school calculates my semesterly GPA so I just used that. I put the total GPA at the top of the form (ther's a field for it)
- I think it's okay if you have more sample terms - just add more! I think if they clearly follow the format, you're fine.

I hope this helps!!

To all you guys who filled out the scholarship form, how did you approach the biographical essay? Broad overview of your background or did you focus on just one or two aspects? Did you include a section on your post-MBA goals?

It seems really open-ended and I'm curious what the rest of you think.

Thanks!

RF

Ja it's really open-ended. I called and asked the Fin Aid office if they see the rest of the app or just this essay when making financial aid decisions. They indicated that they "sometimes see the whole app but that's rare". So I figured it was okay for this essay to do a broad overview of my background and then include a para at the end on my goals....seemed a bit redundant with the rest of the app but if the Fin Aid office doesn't see the rest, then it's most likely fine...

hope this helps :?:

I noticed this was finally posted:

For those of you who are looking at Tuck and thinking about the social scene, Tuck students are starting to hold cocktail parties with some of the undergraduate sororities, which have been pretty well attended.

Granted, most of the girls are still 20 or so, but nevertheless.

Just thought I'd put that out there.

I'm currently on the fence, very interested by the school but need a little more convincing about the social aspects of life at Tuck (er, too many married people anyone :-D ). Hope to speak to Tuck alumni at a local "meet and greet" event and visit campus in September, and then consider applying EA or R1.

I love New England and everything, but I'm going back to school as much for the experience and networking as I am for the education, and I need to make sure I will be comfortable in the school environment at Dartmouth.

-- edit --

I'm dropping my plans for an application to Tuck. The location is just a bit too isolated for my taste.

I am contemplating as well...on the fence right now.

The sole reason for me is the good placement statistics in IB - am not wild about the forests, would rather prefer the city..so still deciding!

I haven't visited the campus yet but considering I attended undergrad in the armpit of Oregon (Klamath Falls -- *queue dualing banjoes*) I can't imagine this being any worse. I actually prefer a more rural, close-knit community...although the ratio of married to singles does worry me a little bit.

Count me in...good luck everyone!! :-D

I am likely in. I visited Hanover a few weeks ago. This school is very unique. Make sure that you can handle it before you apply. Coming from a big state school, I felt that the personal attention and the inability to hide or have privacy may be a refreshing experience. Also, culturally, I definitely fit in at Tuck.

The only downside to keep in mind is that 2nd years are not eligible for on-campus housing. A lot of 2nd years literally live like 10+ miles from campus in the middle of the wilderness and have to drive in to Hanover. You will need a 4WD vehicle for your 2nd year.
