Distance learning offers a potentially lucrative option for learning institutions. Money that would otherwise be spent on classroom space, parking facilities, climate control, and other particulars associated with providing a location-specific service can be diverted to marketing and quality control two crucial factors that can drive new business.

Which of the following can be correctly inferred from the statements above?

A. The costs associated with offering distance learning are lower than those of other instruction methods.
B. Online classes are more convenient for both instructors and students than are classes held at specific geographic locations.
C. Distance learning does not required climate control or parking facilities.
D. Most types of instruction can be effectively conducted in an online setting.
E. Computers and internet access are uniformly available to people in the developed world.[/quote]

I will go with option C.
It is not specified in stimulus that cost for distance learning will be lower than other instruction methods because when money is diverted to marketing and quality control ,imp factors,we can assume that cost can be same for both.

It cant be A.
distance learning lucrative option. why? classroom space, parking facilities, climate control, and other particulars associated with providing a location-specific service cost diverted to marketing and quality control. so what if online leaning require more marketing & more quality control cost. So nothing can be said The costs associated with offering distance learning are lower than those of other instruction methods. but yes it could be lucrative because even thought cost remain same ultimately, profit is greater in second case. So we cant assume anything here.

but it is clearly stated that we don't need to spend on climate control or parking facility, hence Distance learning does not required climate control or parking facilities. (Even though outside knowledge must not be applied, it clearly make sense that distance learning does nt require climate control and parking facility)

options B,C and E are out of scope options or irrelevant for this topic
We see that confusion is between choices A and C
choice C is incorrect due to use of phrase ' does not required '.It is not a compulsion for distance learning to not have climate control or parking facilities.
Correct Answer - A

Even though the OA is mentioned as A, I think C is better
A talks about "The costs associated with offering distance learning are lower than those of other instruction methods
other instruction methods can include a lot of options such as private tuition, shared tuitions, Lessons taught through DVD,Open air classes etc etc.

Whereas the stimulus talks specifically about distance learning and location specific Learning.

Only C can be clearly deduced from the question stem.

I narrowed down to A and C...
marketing and quality control are important, but not required!!!!
so overall costs for delivering the courses are lower.

C - we don't know for sure...what if I don't have a home PC, and I need to attend a public library - where I need to park my car; since "i'm living in Equador", the temperature here is way to high, and I can't live without an A/C....boom, C is destroyed.

A remains.

C clearly says that costs that are required for "other learning institutions" are not required for distance learning hence can be used for marketing and quality control and thats what makes distance learning a potentially lucrative option. That is the main point of the argument. What am I missing?

Which of the following can be correctly inferred from the statements above?

Money that would otherwise be spent on X, Y, Z can now drive new business.
this means they need less money that others and can use the offset amount for new business.

A. The costs associated with offering distance learning are lower than those of other instruction methods.-Inferred
B. Online classes are more convenient for both instructors and students than are classes held at specific geographic locations. -ooo
C. Distance learning does not required climate control or parking facilities. - ooo
D. Most types of instruction can be effectively conducted in an online setting. - not concerned about most types here
E. Computers and internet access are uniformly available to people in the developed world. - more of an assumption

Option A
Argument explains how costs saved from distance learning design could be used to improve its quality and marketing. Argument further explains how costs could be lowered. Hence option A clearly states the same.

IMO C
As this is an inference question so we can not add a new info. therefore C goes with the info provided in the argument whereas A introduces other instruction methods, which is no where mentioned in the argument
