(B) Is a correct option IMO

Ever since a group of boys discovered the cave of Lascaux in the 1960s, Lascaux’s art has overwhelmed visitors with its quantity, its size, and a style that reminds many viewers of works by Modernist artists such as Pablo Picasso.

A) its quantity, its size, and a style that reminds many viewers of works by Modernist artists such as Pablo Picasso.

Parallelism is lost because of missing "its" with Last element in the list i.e Style.

B) its quantity, size, and style that reminds many viewers of works by Modernist artists such as Pablo Picasso.

Correct choice
More concise than choice A

C) its quantity, its size, and a style that reminds many viewers of Modernist artists such as Pablo Picasso.
Meaning is changed + Same issue as in A
I.e This choice changes meaning by saying -A style that reminds of Modernist artist; However, the original sentence says a style that reminds of wroks by Modernist artists not the Modernist artists themselves ..

D) its quantity, its size, and its style that reminds many viewers of Modernist artists such as Pablo Picasso.
Same issue as in C

E) its quantity, size, and its style reminding many viewers of works by such Modernist artists like Pablo Picasso.
Parallelism issue because of missing "Its" with Size and also use of Like is not appropriate to give examples

Here’s my analysis;

A: Parallelism error; introducing an article “a style” is not parallel to rest of the list.

B: no errors. CORRECT CHOICE

C: parallelism error as explained in option A and meaning error.
THAT is used to introduce restrictive clause. And here the subject is a style which modifies modern artists, which is incorrect. We cannot say “style that resembles of modern artists”

D: Introduces the same error as explained in C

E: Parallelism error with style in the list. Also, reminding is illogical here as Verb-ing is used for ongoing action. But here we are stating general fact about the art. Finally like is also illogical to introduce examples, it should be replaced by such as

A) its quantity, its size, and a style that reminds many viewers of works by Modernist artists such as Pablo Picasso. -> Parallelism error, its quantity, its size, and a style...are not parallel.

B) its quantity, size, and style that reminds many viewers of works by Modernist artists such as Pablo Picasso. -> quantity, size, and style are talking about work by Modernist artists. It makes sense. Let's keep it.

C) its quantity, its size, and a style that reminds many viewers of Modernist artists such as Pablo Picasso. -> Same as A. Incorrect.

D) its quantity, its size, and its style that reminds many viewers of Modernist artists such as Pablo Picasso. -> quantity, size, and style can refer to work, not to Modernist artists. Incorrect.

E) its quantity, size, and its style reminding many viewers of works by such Modernist artists like Pablo Picasso. -> Same as A. Incorrect.

So, I think B. :)

No, they didn't get it wrong. "that reminds" modifies only the last item (style), not the entire list.

DmitryFarber sorry expert, if so, I was more confused as you are contradictory with the OE. And if so, why is B wrong?
Mind to explain further? Thanks

Hello Mavisdu1017,

We hope this finds you well.

To answer your query, B is wrong because without the article "a", "style" does not maintain parallelism with "its quantity" and "its size"; remember, all elements in a list must be parallel.

Further, the use of the singular verb "reminds" is correct because it is only the "style" that reminds visitors of works by Modernist artists.

We hope this helps.

Hi generis,

I have a question, you mentioned that

"The use of its before quantity implies that its applies to all three items in the list.
This usage of its creates a plural subject that does not agree with the singular verb reminds.
ELIMINATE B"

But I thought here "its" is a possessive pronoun referring to "Lascaux’s art". So how come "its" is plural?

Have a doubt: does it need AND in between the first 2 items? its quantity AND its size, and a style that...
I remembered RON said there needs to be AND in between 2 parallelism items. Anybody can help?

Hello Mavisdu1017,

We hope this finds you well.

To answer your query, no "and" is needed here; "its quality", "its size", and "a style..." are listed together in the "A, B, and C" construction as the three factors that have overwhelmed visitors.

We hope this helps.

Sorry expert, I think you got wrong. If so, should use “that remind” rather than “that reminds”.

DmitryFarber ExpertsGlobal5 thanks for your explanation. I wanna make a confirmation: if there is a list of parallelism items, “that” ONLY modifies the last item rather than the whole parallelism items. Right?
