Re: GMAT Retake: low quant [#permalink]
Thank you for the replies.

1) I've been studying for about a month now.
2) I've primarly used the 2017 OG + the two supplementary quant and verbal official books by GMAC.
3) The 1st mock test on GMATPrep, i scored 650 with 42 in quant and 38 in verbal. The second one: 640 with 39 in both quant and verbal.

Regarding my goals, i'm applying to LSE/Cambridge, which both do not require GMAT for UK undergrads. In addition to Oxford MFE, HEC, ESSEC and ESCP. Oxford is obviously a way too long shot considering my GMAT results, similarly for the three top french BS. For the timeline, i'll normally apply by november/december.

Hi stigman17,

Many Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores. Thus, if you've really been studying for just 1 month, then that would help to explain why your scores are so similar to one another - you haven't put in enough time to have scored higher yet. This is meant to say that you might naturally improve over time. However, if you really feel as though you're really having difficulty with the Quant section overall, then you might need to invest in some new, non-book study materials to help you improve.

1) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
2) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

1) I'm planning on giving it another month before taking it again.
2) I think i can work for about 12-15 hours each week consistently.

Your advice is much appreciated.

Hi stigman17,

With a Q39, you would have made a number of little mistakes throughout the Quant section and you would have missed out on LOTS of 'strategy-based' points. At that level, it's possible that you need to work on your general math 'knowledge', but it's also possible that you know most of the math rules/formulas just fine - and it's just your organization and 'precision' that needs work. As such, I'd like to know a little more about your last practice CAT (and the more exact you can be with your answers, the better):

After reviewing the Quant section, how many questions did you get wrong....
1) Because of a silly/little mistake?
2) Because there was some math that you just could not remember how to do?
3) Because the question was too hard?
4) Because you were low on time and had to guess?

Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Test, so you CAN train to score at a higher level.

Re: GMAT Retake: low quant [#permalink]
There are certainly some mathematical formulas/shortcuts which i do not master, costing me a few questions. I would say that my biggest weakness are the integers questions, which are also the most frequent. Concerning timing, i'm usually ahead of time, but that's probably because i don't give DS questions enough time to fully consider all the options.

Kind regards.

Hi stigman17,

IMO, GMATClub Math tests are the best option
