GMAT Score 620 after scoring 700+ consistently in mocks

Hi,

I gave my GMAT yesterday and scored 620 (Q40, V35). This was very shocking because I have scored 650+ in Manhattan mocks, 710 and 720 in GMATPrep mocks (timed) and 680 in E-Gmat mock. As per the posts here, GMAT Prep tests are the closest to reality - so I was expecting at least 700+ in my main exam. This score was a rude shock. However, I want to retake the test. My concepts are all clear - my major issue was timing. I majorly messed up the timing in both Quant and Verbal and ended up guessing a lot of questions due to timer stress. I need help regarding the timing strategy - how do I improve? I made a foolish mistake of giving untimed mocks (all except last 2).

And since I have used up both GMAT Prep tests and Manhattan tests, which mock tests should I purchase now?

Expert global and veritas CAT might be options for you in the scenario mentioned above.

Hi Vaishnavi12345 - you should also consider buying the extended GMAT Prep Test Pack (4 additional tests) if you did not use those - though it may seem expensive but they are the closest to what you would expect on the GMAT.
Also, you should always try to give your mocks in test-like conditions since timing and pacing yourself well is one of the most important traits for GMAT.

So sorry to hear your experience. It makes me nervous since I am in a similar situation. I have been scoring around 680-710 in GMAT Club CATs and around 710-720 in GMAT Prep. I am worried how I will fare in the actual exam.

You can consider buying more GMAT Prep mocks.

Hi Vaishnavi12345,

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as planned. You've noted at least one issue with how you studied (re: you took most of your CATs/mocks untimed). However, that was likely NOT the only issue with how you studied. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

You might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.
