Ground oats, wheat bran, linseed meal, and ground barley are mixed by weight in the ratio of 10:6:2:2, respectively. How many tons of wheat bran are there in 15 tons of the mixture?

A. 3/2
B. 5/2
C. 3
D. 9/2
E. 15/2

ratio of wheat bran to the whole mixture is 6/(10+6+2+2)
therefore, wheat bran in a mixture of 15 tons = (6/20)*15 = 9/2
So, its D

total = 20
so wheat bran = 6/20 ;
6/20*15 = 9/2

Total mixture 20x
Wheat bran 6x
6x/20x
3*15/10 =9/2

We can create the equation:

10x + 6x + 2x + 2x = 15

20x = 15

x = 15/20 = 3/4

So there are 3/4 x 6 = 18/4 = 9/2 tons of wheat bran in the mixture.

Answer: D
