(1) a = ab – 1
(2) a + b = 3

Question : ab = ?

STatement 1: a = ab – 1

i.e. ab - a = 1
i.e. a(b-1) = 1
product of two integers will be 1 only if either both are 1 or both are -1
Case 1: a= -1 and b-1 = -1
i.e. a = -1 and b = 0 NOT POSSIBLE as both a and b are non-zero

Case 2: a= 1 and b-1 = 1
i.e. a = 1 and b = 2
i.e. ab = 2
SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: a + b = 3
There are multiple solutions such as
a = 1 and b = 2 or
a = -1 and b = 4
NOT SUFFICIENT

Answer: Option A
