Distance varies Directly as time when speed is fixed.
Since D and T are directly related, we can say that

D1/T1 = D2/T2
Substituting, 30/9 = D2/54
This gives D2 = 180

So the sprinter will take 180 steps in 54 seconds. Hence D

(We can also say that since time has become 6 times, distance will also become 6 times.
6*30 = 180)

$$\frac{54}{9}=6$$

$$6*30=180$$

Therefore, the correct response is: D

We can create the following proportion in which n = the number of steps in 54 seconds:

30/9 = n/54

10/3 = n/54

540 = 3n

180 = n

30/x = 9/54
30 x 54 = 9x
x = 180
