(A) 130
(B) 170
(C) 173
(D) 180
(E) 200

We can create the following proportion in which n = the number of steps in 54 seconds:

30/9 = n/54

10/3 = n/54

540 = 3n

180 = n

Solution

Given
    • A sprinter takes 30 steps in 9 seconds.

To find
    • The number of steps sprinter will take in 54 seconds

Approach and Working out
    • Steps taken in 9 sec = 30 steps
      o Steps taken in 1 sec = 30/9 steps
    • Steps taken in 54 sec = 30/9 * 54 steps= 180 steps

Hence, option D is the correct answer.

Correct Answer: Option D
