Re: If a stationery shop sells notebooks in A-4 size and A-5 size paper [#permalink]

If a stationery shop sells notebooks in A-4 size and A-5 size paper, what is the price of a A-5 size notebooks?

(1) The total price of one A-4 size and one A-5 size notebooks is $4.
(2) The total price of three A-4 size and one A-5 size notebooks is $9

1. x+y=4. Insufficient.
2. 3x+y=9. Insufficient.
Together, it can be easily solved for x and y.

Md231 I initially felt the same, but I don’t think you’re missing out on anything. The question seems to be straightforward.

Statement 1 and 2 each give an equation each in the two prices. Hence, each alone is insufficient. However, on combining, as the two equations are exclusive, they can be combined to get unique values of each price. No need to solve to save time.
