If \(x^2+2xy+y^2=25\) , \(x+y >0\) , and \(x-y=1\), then what is the value of x?

A. 1
B. 2
C. 3
D. 4
E. 5

\(x^2+2xy+y^2=25……….(x+y)^2=5^2=(-5)^2\)
But x+y>0, so x+y=5. Also x-y=1
Solving 2x=6 or x=3 and y=2

x2+2xy+y2=25

since x+y>0

(x+y)^2=5^2
x+y=5 or -5

but x+y>0
x+y=5
x-y=1

x=3 y=2

Therefore C
