In Cytherea Corporation, each employee was given an interpersonal assessment with a score from 0 to 60. Te average score among all male employees was 35, and the average score for all employees was 39. If Cytherea Corporation has 40 male employees and 10 female employees, what was the average score among all female employees?

A. 40
B. 43
C. 47
D. 51
E. 55

We can let f = the average score among all female employees and calculate a weighted average:

[(35)(40) + 10f]/50 =39

(35)(40) + 10f = (39)(50)

35 x 4 + f = 39 x 5

140 + f = 195

f = 55

Answer: E

39-35 = 4.......39.....x (Distance from mean)

4 * 40 = x * 10
x = 16
Average score among female employees = 39 + 16 = 55
E

Bunuel Luckisnoexcuse can you explain how to use "distance in mean" to arrive to the solution. would be thankful.

Tried an approach different from the traditional one: (30 second approach)

40 male have avg of 35 and the mean is 39.
Difference = 39-35 = 4
This difference of '4' has to be compensated by additional value of 10 elements(females)
so additional value * 10 = 4*40
additional value = 16

average age of females = mean + additional value= 39+16 = 55
--E--

Let me know if you have any query

TaN1213 can you plss elaborate/explain this approach in a bit detail. thanks in advance.

Mean of 50 employees is 39
Mean of 40 Male employees is 35
Mean of 10 Female employees is x

Now 39*50 = 35*40 + 10*x
1950 - 1400 = 10x
x=55
