(1) 4|x| + 2|y| = 0. Since absolute value is always non-negative then we have that the sum of two non-negative values (4|x| and 2|y|) is zero, which is only possible if each is zero --> x=y=0 --> xy=0. Sufficient.

(2) 7|x| + 5|y| = 0. The same here. Sufficient.

Is xy < 0?

(1) 4|x| + 2|y| = 0
4|X|=-2|y|..
All values are positive so 4|X| cannot be negative..
Only possibility is it is 0, thus both X and y are 0 and xy=0....
Ans ..No
Sufficient

(2) 7|x| + 5|y| = 0
Same as above..
Sufficient
