Where to get the Official Guide 2020?

  • Efficient Learning - eBook Available Now
    This is the platform for GMAT Online Quizzes from the OG - it has the OG 2020 Bundle (which includes Quant and Verbal OG) for about $55 after a 30% discount code. I am posting some screenshots of the platform as well as comparison of the Guides below.
  • Google Books - Available Now
    I also found it here to my surprise. Does anyone know what Google books actually is? I could not figure out what purpose it served.... but I am able to browse it here
  • Amazon - Now Available
    Amazon does not have the Guide available until May 7th. If you want a print copy of the book, I would suggest to check back often as they often release their books before the anticipated date. In addition, I do NOT recommend pre-ordering since those orders tend to ship with the lowest priority and will definitely not ship until the 7th.



What's New in OG 2020?

  • 114 "new" questions that were not included in the OG 2019 and 107 more total questions. GMAC does not actually say they are new questions but instead they say "over 100 more questions than the 2019 edition" that's because some questions are not new, like this RC passage that showed up in OG 2020. That's 1 of 2 "new" passages; the other one is new, however.
  • Most of the new questions are in the DS and CR sections. Most are inserted as a block of new questions in the middle or beginning of the section. It is not clear what pattern was followed and whether they tried to fit within the increasing difficulty parameters or just make it easy to plug in new questions
  • New questions are very easy to spot - they have non-standard designators/question ID's. For example, the usual ID's are PS05001. The new ID's are in a different format: PS40602.01 - there is a decimal at the end of the ID. Thank you GMAC!
  • Here are the counts of the "new" questions: Total of 114
    • PS: 6 (96-101)
      DS: 56
      RC: 10 (5 technically)
      CR: 29
      SC: 13



How to Best Use the Official Guide?
  • The Official Guide is a very valuable book because it contains the Official Questions (the only source of the Official Questions except the GMAT Prep software)
  • The questions are supposed to be arranged in a progressive difficulty sequence. That is generally the rule; however, it is not an absolute rule and difficulty can vary as we have seen many times when doing analysis of difficulty in the OG 2019 Error Log
  • The best strategy for using the OG is to pair it with another book set or a course. You would use that book/course to learn the basics as well as question and test strategies and then supplement it with the Official Guide. Do not make the mistake of using only the Official Guide as it will not help you by itself!

With the arrival of the new Official GMAT Guide 2020, we have a series of 114 new practice questions - meaning questions that were not included in the Official GMAT Guide 2019 book (with certain older questions removed from the prior version of the book). Thanks EMPOWERgmatRichC for the effort to dissect the OG for new questions.

I do not recall new questions CR with that numbers. I hope the questions are really new ones. No recycled questions from old or questions packs.

I have in my database ALL the OG and ALL the rest of the Official material offered by GMAC (QP, GMATPrep Exams....).

Something is recycled. However, something is brand new. For instance, this RC I never have seen it before https://gmatclub.com/forum/arboria-is-f ... 94558.html

Considerations I didn't see till now either super stellar, out of this world difficult questions in these new releases.

Of course, the OGs are not the right place to find out super tough questions.

The paper version of the book is also available!

You can now order it on Amazon for delivery on Thursday, May 2nd. (Both the main guide and the additional Verba/Quant guides are available, as usual, they have 45 new questions each that do not overlap with the main OG 2020)
