The GMAT Club Guide to The GMAT Official Guide 2019th Ed
Error Log, Difficulty, Links

The Official Guide 2019 is a great resource - it has real GMAT questions, all questions are arranged in order of difficulty, good explanations, etc but it has one major flaw - no way to sample specific questions or ability to target a specific area - for example all SC questions with idioms or all DS questions that deal with geometry. This Guide attempts to correct that flaw (and a little bit more), making Official Guide even better.

New Feature - RC Difficulty - with the addition of GMAT Club's Error Log for Reading Comprehension, earlier this year, we are able to track difficulty of RC's. Currently the % column in RC's indicates the percent of people who got this question wrong. For all other sections (DS, PS, CR, SC), the % indicates the percentile standing of the question in the GMAT Club's database of difficulty.

Use this guide to:

  • Find Difficulty about every question available in the-Official Guide for GMAT Review
  • Help find specific practice questions and build your custom practice tests that focus on your weak areas
  • Keep your OG Practice in one place with an Error Log and Analytics
  • Understand difficulty of each question (it is not very linear as you will notice). We have split difficulty into 4 groups (easy, medium, hard, and very hard). This split is based on the percentile of the question difficulty as determined by GMAT Club Timer sessions
  • Explanations are linked to each question for easy reference
  • All new questions are identified by "new" label
  • Questions are numbered using the same format as in the OG (new update in this version)
  • The split of hard/medium/easy questions has remained the same by en large. However, the location of harder questions has been moving around quite a bit.

P.S. I found a few typos in the OG 2019 - it had some in the questions and some in the Answer Key. If you find an inconsistency or an error in my spreadsheet, please PM me (check it with the book in multiple places first please)

The new with an asterisk was an attempt to show questions that have either been previously posted or were variations of questions previously posted (meaning they were almost the same but not quite). In other words, they were new to the OG2019 but actually not new in the sense that we have never seen them.

P.S. I have found 2 questions so far that had the exact same Stem but different answer choices. Thanks to EmpowerGMAT for pointing that out (I have updated the file) CR603 and CR608 were both slightly modified (same setup, diff answer choices).

Sorry to disappoint but it is not available due to variety of compatibility issues and security warnings from excel. People were using Mac, Win, diff versions of office and became a support nightmare. :( We will not be supporting a timer in the file. If you would like to use one, you can download a standalone GMAT timer, or repurpose one from the previous version. However there is no support or discussion of timer in this file.

Hi. Sorry I missed your earlier question.
We are working on the other ones. I am going to start working on the Verbal OG Questions on Wed - would anyone like to join in and help with 20-50 questions? We can get it done in a day between all of us!

Thx,
BB

Noted on the above. Gotta repurpose it then with a timer!

I noticed an error with a few of the RC questions so far that when you click on an answer choice in the error log tab, the answer choice will be entered 4 or 5 cells above the question you are answering. Seems like a big glitch.

*Update*

I downloaded the Google Docs version and edited this and it seems to work fine.

Note that I changed the name on the version I downloaded here, I'm not sure if that stuffed around with the characters/ objects you created.

Hey bb,

I've only gone through the RC section and the answers are largely incorrect.

I will update the log and post it here. It's a real kick to my confidence when correct questions appear incorrect!

Hi,

I've gone through and corrected all the errors in the RC answers. Here's the updated version (uncleansed) https://www.dropbox.com/s/e1g6ihf8e5u78 ... .xlsx?dl=0

broall could you please incorporate your timer into this? It's really useful and I find it erroneous to use an alternate log/timer and copy/paste values into this one log.

I'd greatly appreciate it if you could do this brah!

Cheers

How are the percentiles determined?

I've read that "This split is based on the percentile of the question difficulty as determined by GMAT Club Timer sessions." and "For all other sections (DS, PS, CR, SC), the % indicates the percentile standing of the question in the GMAT Club's database of difficulty."

The difficulty is just based off of the percentile number. Some clarification would be helpful. Thanks.

Hallo

I think there is something wrong in "Error log" tab for PS and DS questions.
Formulas from "Result" column takes the OA from RC tab instead of PS and DS tabs, for PS and DS questions

Cheers

Thank you!

That's emberrasing - in fixing a formatting issue, I seem to have overwritten everything with RC. I have corrected the issue and uploaded v4 file.
Thank you for pointing it out!

P.S. The online version seems to have been unaffected.

Thank you again for posting this.

I think there is an error starting on row 636 in the Error Log tab of the downloadable version of the guide - every "Q. No." in column G is 231 starting in this row.

Thanks again!

Thank you - that was something I inadvertantly introduced in one of the versions.
I have made a few updates to the file:
1. Fixed this issue
2. Changed the order of the sections in the error log. Now they follow the GMAT: PS, DS, RC, CR, SC (hope it is Ok with everyone)
3. I got rid of the colum that had Q No in the Error log
4. Updated formulas on the Analysis sheet

Let me know if you spot any other issues. Really appreciate your help!

Hi there - one more quick one: #29 (row 31) of the Diag V tab should be B, not E.

Thank you for pointing that out! Odd mistake - i feel it has been carried over from a while ago since the Diag test is always the same and we have not changed the questions there for quite a while. I think it is finally time to use this one: :facepalm_man:

Question 300 asks for F in the book but M in the version on your spreadsheet (data sufficiency question). Could we put up another version asking to solve for F?
