Since we are given that the list is in ascending order, the median rainfall is \(x\) inches.

We are also told that Mean = Median

That is, \(\frac{15+24+x+45+60}{5} = x\)

\(144+x=5x\)

\(x=36\)

Answer is (D)

We see that x must be the median and also the average annual rainfall. We can create the equation:

(15 + 24 + x + 45 + 60) / 5 = x

144 + x = 5x

144 = 4x

36 = x

Answer: D

Since mean and median are same just look at the difference
15 - 24 - x - 45 - 60
9 - x - 15

So the gap for x will be 12.

So 24+12 will be 36

Answer D

We can create the equation:

(15 + 24 + x + 45 + 60) / 5 = x
