Hi guys,
I am looking for advice on whether to retake the GMAT or not and also whether to push to enroll in a MBA program by Fall 2012 or wait till Fall 2013.
I have a BBA in Finance with Honors from Temple University with a 3.47GPA. I am 29 years old now and will be turning 30 in the fall. I am worried that at 31, I would be too old if I wait till next year.
I have 4 years work experience in Corporate Finance working in Fortune 500 companies. I also have 5 years experience in Hotel Mgmt - I managed a 4 diamond hotel during college and was very involved in the Customer Service efforts as well as in Revenue mgmt & Front Office mgmt.
I scored a 670 on the GMAT with a 42Q/40V and 6 on AWA. I didn't finish 2 questions on the quant portion. I had been scoring ~700 on practice tests and feel like I can probably get up to 720ish range with some application. I would potentially retake the GMAT in November.
I don't have any volunteer type experience to mention.
Pretty sure with a 670, I can get into most part time programs but if I can get into a top program I really would like to go fulltime. My big concern is that at 31 I would be considered too old for top programs.
Let me know your thoughts.
Hi,
First of all applying at 30 is not necessarily a drawback. Although there is definitely a trend of applying at 27 or 28 years , schools still consider 30 years with 9 - 10 years of work exp for their full time program. And seeing your profile, I think you do stand a good chance in full time programs of some of the top B-Schools.
But definitely retake your GMAT in November to give your application an extra boost.
Not having volunteer type service experience is not a major issue. Instead you can highlight your hobbies or something that you are passionate about apart from work and how that has helped in your daily life can also be showcased by you.
I would suggest you to start early rather than wait. Finalize the schools that you would like to target and start working on their applications.
Also if you happen to be based out of either Delhi, Bangalore or Mumbai, you can attend a MBA workshop by the Dean Admissions ISB along with alumnus of various global B-Schools during the dates mentioned in this links
