Couldn't help noticing but its really quiet in here compared to 2012 thread (about the same time last year). No more interview invites or campus visit experiences in the last few days?

I'd like to think that there are less number of applicants this year, although I know that there is a lot going on outside this forum! :)

Ha, I wish there were less. Nothing left for us EA guys to do but sit around and wait... I have 12/14 circled on my calendar and have wasted enough time staring at it. This is by far the worst part of the process.

Thanks for the transportation recommendations guys. I think I'm leaning towards renting a car and just driving up.. I know it's a fat chance, but anyone from NYC heading up on Oct 30th?

As others mentioned, Dartmouth Coach is a great option. Tickets do sell out fast so keep that in mind.

If you are planning to stay outside Hanover which is way-way more affordable than staying in town, then car is probably your best bet. Let me know if you have any questions about the visit. Happy to help.

I have already started my first essay and have a couple different drafts that are pretty strong. I am having a tougher time with the second. If I want it to be a classic failure essay or switch it into a short-coming and here is why HBS is perfect for me right now type essay.

Not sure. I applied and I am waiting to hear back. I would love to attend the conference. It would be great to get back up to Hanover and spend some more time with students and faculty.

Did you apply, and if so have you heard anything back yet?

I just got a response today about the conference. I was accepted. So I would imagine you'll hear back soon.

I am considering applying to Tuck but I am a bit hesitant as I haven't visited the campus. It seems that Tuck is big on campus visits.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend the info session in Toronto back in September either.

If someone can answer my question, i.e., Would it be worth applying to Tuck without visiting campus? Considering that there are only 250 odd admits every year. I am guessing most of them, if not all, would have visited the campus or attended the info session at some point.

Visiting the campus is a must. The applicant-initiated interview is "Strongly encouraged" and is a great opportunity to state your case in person as well as get a feel for what two years at Tuck will be like. Other than Duke and Kellogg, there aren't other top schools that offer this option.

Tuck wants to make sure you want to be at Tuck, and not just have an MBA with the Tuck stamp on it after graduation - what I mean by this is that they're trying to weed out the applicant who is merely applying to Tuck because it's a strong school. The Tuck experience will be very different from say Wharton, Columbia, Sloan or Harvard.

Also - 250 is the target class size...they admit roughly double that.

Hope this helps.

I completely agree with the above except for one caveat: I believe the class size has crept up to ~280 and, as was mentioned, the yield is about 50%, so figure about 550 admits.

Any clue how long do we (EA round applicants) need to wait before we hear something from Tuck?

PS: Non-US candidate.

Not interviewed yet. Awaiting response from AdCom. Looking at the last year's thread International Students started receiving off-campus interview invites around this week.

Is not visiting tuck a huge liability? I'm applying there for january round but can't visit due to financial constraints (i'm not on the east coast). Should I discuss this in the optional essay?

Well, it's still good to visit if you can.
As for writing it in an essay, I don;t think that's a good idea. I mean it sounds like "I need to spend 150K on Bschool, but Im not willing to shell out 700 bucks to find out what your school is really like"
ouch.

They specifically ask for reasons not to visit in the online application. May be there you can spell out some reasons/constraints.

Perhaps they'll start inviting people for Interviews only after they have reviewed everyone else who made the campus visit/self-initiated interview...? If I were in their shoes I'd most likely do that -- prioritize those who prioritized me.

I doubt that the adcom sorts applications in that order. One person reported an interview invite just 6 days after the EA deadline.

Frankly, I believe they can invite you anytime between now and december barring maybe a 1-2 week lock down befire the accouncement date. Keep your hopes up and don't read too much into it :)
