Hi scott,

What variation do you usually see with your students when it comes to test scores. I know MGMAT claims a 50 point Deviation (+- 50) between their test scores and the real test (on average). Does Veritas Prep keep track of whether the CAT under scores or over scores when compared to GMAT or GMAT PREP ?

Hi Vomhorizon,

Our practice tests produce scores that are also normally within 50 points of what students earn on the real GMAT. As we always tell students, the best way to use any practice test is to track trends... If you're steadily improving from one test to the next, then you're heading in the right direction. If you find you're able to complete the tests without running out of time, then that's a good sign. But we do indeed find our tests to be accurate within 50 points of the real exam.

Hey guys,
Just a thought.
Why do you care so much about actual GMAT score correlation with practice CATs? The CATs are not meant yo give you an extremely realistic score. Those are meant to simulate the GMAT experience, fix you timing issues, adopt a strategy for you to implement and internalize.
To get an accurate indicator, there is GMATPrep or well, the GMAT.

Well said! We're constantly working to improve the accuracy of our CATs (our GMAT Question Bank is part of how we do this), but we think that one of the best things that practice tests do is help students get in "game shape" and build up the stamina they need on test day.

Trends do matter... If you take five practice tests from the same provider and find that your score is not improving, that's not a good sign. But focusing on whether you got a 730 or a 700 on a practice test can lead you astray!

Completely agreed.
Trends matter :-)
But then I expect people to prepare and study between consecutive tests. So you should improve.
A CAT is a diagnosis. You cannot hope to improve just by taking tons of tests. And I think too much tests will pretty much make you too fatigued for the GMAT.

Hi
I know, but i wanted to also know what the VP folks know as a deviation is on their test. I know MGMAT claims a +-50 variation..It helps to put things in proper practice. I agree with the fact that CAT's are meant to chart progress and should be valued for the analysis they provide.
