Hi
I am new to this forum so please bear with me if I am making no sense.
Before I ask questions, please allow me tell you a bit about myself.
I moved to Canada from Korea when I was a Jr. in high school.
Then,
Education:
BApplied Science in Civil Engineering from one of top 5 schools of Canada (not that there are too many schools) graduated with distinction (GPA maybe around 3.4 but last two years about 3.7)
MS in Civil Engineering from an Cornell University (GPA 4.0). Out of 6 semesters, I was fully funded (tuition and living expenses) for 5 semesters. Published a few papers and made a couple of presentations at International convention/conference.
I haven't written GMAT yet but when I wrote GRE in 1999, I did very well on quant. and analy. (760 and 780, respectively) but did poorly on verbal. I am preparing to write GMAT earlier next year and aiming for +740 (yup it will be a lot of work).
I am actively involved in the community (serving as a financial committee member in a non-profit organization) and also in the office regarding non-working related functions (social activities, the United Way fundraising, etc)
Also, I am taking courses in some fitness theory and personal training (for fun and also to help others who can use some more professional knowledge but allergic to schools) because that's my main interest other than work these days.
I have been working in an engineering consulting industry. I work as a design engineer (of infrastructures - i.e. bridges, dams, tunnels, etc) and also a project manager of small projects as well as technical coordinator (communications with clients, other partners) of larger projects and proposals.
I am planning to apply during 2006-2007 admission season. Then by the time I start the program (if I get accepted) in Sept of 2007, I would have close to 5 years of working experience (and will be 31 yrs old). Next year, I will obtain all of my professional designations from Canada and USA so apply to MBA schools at the end of next year will be a perfect timing for me.
What I would like to do after my MBA degree is that I would like to work all over the world and develop and establish new civil/infrastructural markets. To be able to accomplish this, I know that I will need strong management/communication/marketing skills as well as a strong technical background.
I know this is getting much much longer than what I was hoping for:
But my questions are:
1 Do I have a good chance in getting admissions from Top 10 schools?
2 If so (or if not) which schools should I apply?
3 How many schools should a typical applicants apply? (I was thinking about 2-3 in R1 and 3-4 in R2. Is that too many?)
4 I read from someone's blog, that he would be 32 or 33 by the time the program starts, which makes him too old for Harvard and Stanford. Is that true?
Thanks for reading this long post.
