A 45° -45° - 90° right triangle has hypotenuse of length h. What is th [#permalink]
Thank you.

My solution:
The triangle is a x, x, x√2 triangle

Therefore, divide everything by √2 to get h = 1....

Now you have...
h/√2, h/√2, and 1

(*legs are now in terms of h)

Solve:
base*height/2
= (h√2*h√2) / 2
= (h√2)²/2
= h²/4

The side ratio of a 45-45-90 right triangle is x : x : x√2, thus:

h = x√2

h/√2 = x

So, the area is (h/√2)^2 * 1/2 = h^2/2 * 1/2 = h^2/4.

Answer: E
