Since 1992, when the board of directors voted to allow inside salespeople's commissions to be based on how the entire department performs as a whole, several regional offices began setting department goals prohibitively high, with a goal to incite individual competition and prevent against freeloading.

(A) inside salespeople's commissions to be based on how the entire department performs as a whole, several regional offices began

(B) inside salespeople's commissions to be based on the performance of the entire department as a whole, several regional offices began

(C) that the commission of inside salespeople be based on how the entire department performs as a whole, several regional offices have begun

(D) commission of inside salespeople to be based on the performance of the entire department as a whole, several regional offices have begun

(E) that inside salespeople's commissions be based on the performance of the entire department as a whole, several regional offices began

The answer is D
The sentence is in command subjunctive and the verb is allow.
The form of command subjunctive is bossy verb + that +noun + bare form of verb.
But this structure is not followed with every bossy verb some verbs are an exception.

Verbs that take ONLY the Infinitive:
advise, allow, forbid, persuade, want

Some verbs can take both infinitive or bare infinitive form of the verb.

For the above reasons D is correct

Nice question. missed the subjunctive this time around :(

It took me 10 sec to mark option D as the correct choice but out of fear or something like that I kept browsing through other options ; finally marked option D at 1:48 . 🤭🤭

Hello poorvi125,

We hope this finds you well.

To answer your query, this usage of apostrophe "s" is perfectly correct; the apostrophe "s" is used to denote possession by forming a possessive noun, not to form plural nouns.

We hope this helps.

Does allow not need a subjunctive?

Hello AUG1523,

We hope this finds you well.

To answer your query, Option D actually does employ the subjunctive mood construction “bossy verb (“allows”) + infinitive verb form (“to + base form of verb”- “to + be” in this sentence)”.

However, you should keep in mind that the subjunctive mood is a preference, not a requirement; an answer choice can still be correct, even if it does not use the subjunctive mood where applicable.

We hope this helps.
All the best!
