Option 1 : t=10 to 20 (distance traveled 100 to 75 km) - detour due to turbulence
Option 2 : t=50 to 60 (distance traveled 275 to 375 km)
Here, the plane travels closer to the destination by 100 km in Option 2
but it travels 25 km away from the destination in Option 1. So we can
say that the plane was closer to its destination at t=10 than it was at
t=20 and Option 1 is the answer!

Am afraid, but I may request you to please help me on this. Am sure we all are missing some point here which is leading to incorrect answer.
While you have explained using a hypothetical example, would you please be kind to help me/us using actual data of the graph to derive answer to Q1.
1). I think what am struggling with the concept is a plane is said to be " closer to it' destination " when the distance between plane and destination is least. I took this as my reference to derive the time slot which represents this i.e. 240/260.
2). From your example I understand that it is the maximum travelled distance between a time slot that should be the answer, but you took the time slot where we travelled only 25 kms instead of 100 kms.?
Please can you help/ or anyone please help
