Initial

Sugar:Salt:Water = 5:3:7

Final

Sugar:Salt:Water = 10:3:14

14x=7

x=0.5

Therefore, final concentration of salt = 3*0.5 = 1.5

Answer is (A)

The ratio, by volume, of salt to sugar to water in a certain solution is 3:5:7. The solution will be altered so the ratio of sugar to salt is doubled while the ratio of sugar to water is maintained. If altered solution will contain 7 cubic centimeters of water, how many cubic centimeters of salt will it contain?

A. 1.5
B. 3
C. 5
D. 10
E. 14

The original ratio is:

Salt : sugar : water = 3 : 5 : 7

Since sugar to salt is doubled, we have:

sugar/salt = 10/3

Since the ratio of sugar to water is maintained, we have:

sugar/water = 10/14

The new ratio is:

Salt : sugar : water = 3x : 10x : 14x

Since there are 7 cubic centimeters of water:

14x = 7

x = 1/2

Thus, salt is 3 x 1/2 = 1.5 cubic centimeters.
