Re: MS Finance Profile Evaluations [Master Thread]: Post all Profiles Here [#permalink]
Hi everyone,

I am currently a senior student at Binghamton University majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Quantitative Finance. I am also minoring in Economics. I would like to share a bit of my background. I moved to the United States from Hong Kong a few years ago and back then, I barely speak English. I tried my best to be successful in academic areas but my lack of professional experiences seems to really hurt me. I have some MsFin programs that I am interested in but I am not sure about my chances with any of them.

Profile
CGPA - 3.94/4.00
Major GPA - 4.00/4.00
GMAT - 680 (If needed, I can retake the GMAT)
Work experience - I currently work as a shift manager in a beverage store and I have worked as a summer marketing assistant for Hong Kong marketing companies for two consecutive years.
(I know I don't have many professional experiences and I am working on it)

Post Master Goals
I want to pursue a career in investment banking and my long-term goal is to find a decent financial job in Hong Kong.

Programs
London Business School
London School of Economics
Imperial
Manchester
Edinburgh
Illinois
Boston
Ohio
Washington

I would like to get offers from the Top's 50 programs and planned to retake the GMAT. What score do you guys think is needed to get accepted by the Top's 50 programs? My lack of professional experiences made me think that I won't get those competitive offers no matter how high I can achieve on GMAT.

Thank you guys so much and I really appreciate the help!

Hi everyone

I am looking to apply for masters in finance program. I currently work as a equity quant analyst at one of the big banks. I will have a work experience of 2 years by the time I join the program next year.

Background:
23 year old indian engineer.

Undergrad: 8.22/10 CGPA from IIT, a top 3 engineering college in India.

GMAT: 700 ( Q51, V34) I plan to give another attempt later in November.

Apart from my current work experience of 1 year as quant analyst which is a heavily quant driven role involving stochastic calculus and programming, I have internships and project related to equity research and derivatives respectively.

Extracurricular: 4 month volunteering experience for UN event in Russia. I have been a part of sports team and won a few college level competitions.
Part of an NGO which provides home and care for stray dogs and other animals.

Programs that I am targeting:
Mfin at MIT sloan, LSE, Oxford, HEC. I am open to suggestions for more schools which might be worth trying based on my profile.

What do you think about my profile in general? Where do I need to improve so that I have a solid application? Do I need to give GMAT again, or my heavily quant driven background can help me out ( though I got 51 in GMAT quant, it is the verbal section where I am stuck unable to cross the V35 barrier)

Please provide any suggestions or feedback.

Thanks.

Hey kkraider,

Your overall profile looks pretty decent. To start off with the strong suits in your profile, your GPA of 8.22/10 in undergraduate is impressive.
Also, the fact that you’ve graduated from IIT which is an excellent addition to your profile as top-notch B-schools tend to pick students from the top 10 colleges/universities of every country.

Another significant aspect that schools focus on is extracurricular activities as they are looking for a comprehensive profile. Hence, it is essential to shed some light on the endeavors taken up at any clubs, associations, sports, fest, or events you managed or participated in during your undergraduate. Volunteering initiatives, certifications, or internships undertaken during the course of your study would also count towards your extracurricular initiatives. Herein, you have mentioned that you hold a 4-month volunteering experience for a UN event in Russia which showcases International exposure that is a highly sought after trait as it vouches for your broadened perspective and ability to adapt and work well in foreign environments. Then you have mentioned that you have been into sports, college-level competitions, and also been part of an NGO which showcases diverse activities in your profile. It also shows that you have been socially responsible and very proactive. All in all, these are the very traits that define a great leader and would most certainly help in conveying why you are a good candidate for the school.

Coming to your professional front, you have mentioned that you currently work as a quant analyst and hold 1 year of experience with one of the big banks which works for you. But since most of your competitors will be from the Big 4 firms, you need to differentiate yourself. You thus ought to explain and highlight the major projects of your work and how these experiences helped to develop and further groom your skills and knowledge. Highlight why you chose the bank, projects done so far how you have gone beyond the role, any initiatives you took, and any kind of impact created to establish a connection with your goals and portray the knowledge gained from these experiences. You need to talk about your exposure towards the field of finance by showcasing financial elements in your profile since you are applying for specialised masters. The reason being, schools tend to prefer candidates who show a lot of passion in terms of the field they choose. Properly highlighting this would allow you to stand at par with candidates with more extensive work experience from Big 4’s.

Since you are currently working, maybe you can take up certifications in finance such as CFA, FRM, and stock exchange certificates. This will show you are highly inclined and passionate towards the field of finance and now you want to build your theoretical knowledge by joining the program.
Heading to your GMAT score of 700, with Quant 51 and Verbal 34, opens the door for you to be eligible for most of the B-schools in the world as anything above 690 is great. However, it is a bit on the lower end for the elite schools you are targeting, as MIT Sloan and Oxford require at least 720+ whereas for HEC, you require a 710. So, a retake is what I recommend. You should aim for at least a minimum of 720 score to be eligible for these schools, keeping in mind that you maintain or further improve your Quant score. That said, practice is key to achieving perfection. I would suggest taking as many mocks as possible and attempting all sections collectively to get a fair idea of where you need to buckle up.

Since all these schools come under the dream category, they have a stringent acceptance rate of 12-15%, converting your chances of acceptance to 50%. That is why it is often suggested to go for a mixed bunch of dream, competitive, and safe schools, as it would result in hedging your bets wisely.
That said, here are the few competitive and safe schools that you can go for:

COMPETITIVE: ESSEC, ESCP, WHU
SAFE: EDHEC, Skema

Lastly, while you have a good profile, you need to be aware that you will be facing competition from equally good or even better profiles, which is why, you need to compliment your profile with a strong application that includes essays, letter of recommendation, statement of purpose, and resume that highlights all your strong suits, gives reasoning for the weaknesses and displays how you’d be a good addition to the cohort. As a matter of fact, your application can boost your chances of acceptance by 3x!

If you’re planning to apply for the 2021 intake, you can check our flagship service- All-In-One Solution to see how we could assist you in preparing a polished application and highlighting your strengths so that you have a shot at these and even better schools.

I also have online certification in ML/Data Science, Investing and Market Research, and Quantitative Financial Modelling. I just wanted to get some evaluation of my chances for acceptance at tier 1 ms finance programs and where should I apply I know my GPA shall come in my way but I still plan to apply to tier 1.

My Choice of Schools: HEC Paris, NYU, Ohio ( Fischer), LSE, and other tier 1 schools from Europe and US

I am working hard to get into some competitive master programs. Please help me evaluate my profile and suggest me how i can better improve my chances. Thank you,

Hey swapnilyadav,

Your profile seems pretty decent. Your undergraduate degree score of 61.2% is definitely on the lower end of the spectrum. However, you can justify your low marks by posing the right alibi and drawing attention to your inclination towards extracurricular activities, practical experiences or internships. One thing that you have missed to mention is your undergraduate degree background which is very important since it will testify whether your undergraduate degree course is in sync to the Mfin program you are applying for as schools do favour applicants who have had academic backgrounds and experiences in a relevant field. Thus following these routes will surely work in your favour.

Speaking about your extracurricular activities which hold equal importance since schools are looking for a holistically developed profile, you have mentioned that you have held various leadership positions in your school and college. Though this aspect of your profile carries a lot of value, it is only relevant in the case of your undergraduate endeavours and above. Any major achievements prior to this are not considered very significant. Furthermore, you have also talked about your participation in NGOs and various certifications that you undertook, which again showcases your proactiveness and that you are socially responsible. Moreover, you can dig deeper into your endeavours by highlighting how you went above and beyond to excel and how you will be a great value addition to the school by talking about the projects that you were part of, the exposure you had there, the major takeaways and how you added value or contributed to these endeavours.

Further on, you have mentioned that you have had one year of work experience at KPMG, 6- month experience with a start-up and you also manage your family business. First and foremost, your stint at KPMG definitely works in your favour since it is a big brand that vouches for your capability to excel. Adding to this your 6-month experience at a start-up and the implementation of your practical knowledge gained from working in a big as well as a small company onto your family business showcases a holistically developed work profile. This also reveals how you have attained work experience in the three diverse and varied domains which again highlights your adaptability and flexibility skills, thus making you stand out from the crowd. While these experiences are definitely praiseworthy, to set yourself at par with your competitors, you can maybe focus on highlighting why you chose these companies, the kind of projects you handled, the value you added to these projects, how you built on your finance skills and the major takeaways you were able to gain from the same.

Moving forward, let's talk about your Gmat score wherein you are expecting a 660-700 which would not really work for you if you are aiming for a top tier B-school. For a Tier 1 school, you need to at least target a minimum GMAT score of 690-700 and a quant score of 49+. When it comes to specific schools like HEC, you require at least a 710 in your GMAT score. Moreover, when it comes to the schools you are targeting, they all belong to the dream category school (where you have 50% chance of acceptance) except for Ohio which comes under a competitive category school (where you have a 70% chance of acceptance).

Additionally, to broaden your options when it comes to competitive category schools you can also be looking at schools such as ESSEC, ESCP, FSFM, MANNHEIM, IE, ESADE, BOSTON University and if you want you can also explore your chances in the safe category schools (where you have 80% chance of acceptance) such as SKEMA, GRENOBLE and EDHEC.

All said and done, while you have a decent profile, there will be thousands of applicants out there with similar to considerably better profiles, which is why your application would play a huge role in enhancing your chances of getting accepted into your target schools. You would need to highlight your profile USP’s and how you can be a great addition to the school whilst posing the right examples to legitimize your claim. Additionally, you need to ensure that your LORs and Resume, equally depict the strengths of your profile.

Thus, if you’re looking for expert counselling sessions and services in the form of multiple editing, proofreading and up-gradation of your application which consist of your Essay, SOP, LOR and resume that hold a 30% value in the selection procedure, you can check out our All in One service that has proven to help over 2500+ applicants get into their target schools!

where should I apply? how likely am I to get into my list of schools?

Hey ConceptSca,

You have a pretty decent profile.

Starting off with your academics, you undoubtedly have a strong academic background. Your GPA of 3.9 in Finance showcases your advanced financial acumen and your academic prowess.

Your GMAT is pretty decent too. It does fall a bit on the shorter side but you can always negate that by crafting a strong application which provides apt justifications for your scores. Moreover, if you are open to retaking the GMAT, I would suggest doing so, as higher the score, the more strengthened your profile will be.

Coming to your work experience, your 2-month internship as a credit analyst which is relevant work experience in the field of finance, is something that would be appreciated by business schools. Although, you must take note that there is a lack of big brand names in your profile. You are applying to a competitive program where you would face competitions from the candidates owning experiences from big4 companies. Hence, I would suggest you craft an application that draws the focus on the quality of your work experience. Here, you can talk about the kind of projects you worked on, the major learning takeaways and how you bloomed into the role of a credit analyst. Additionally, I would suggest getting an internship at preferably one of the big companies as that would automatically vouch for your capabilities, given the stringent acceptance rates at big brands.

You also have a fair share of part-time work experience as well. Being a tutor on the campus showcases the extent of your financial knowledge meanwhile working in the campus office highlights your management skills. Here, you may talk about the impact you created and the events you organized for the students while working in the recreational centre.

That said, another significant aspect is that schools focus on extracurricular activities. So you would be required to elucidate your proactiveness in extracurricular and other initiatives. In case you don’t have any, it's recommended to work upon the same to build a holistic profile.

You can work on this front by taking up volunteering activities or getting associated with an NGO. Alternatively, you may also take up certifications in finance such as FRM and CFA which would not only showcase your proactive attitude but also your passion for the field. Also, you are still a senior and haven’t graduated yet, so you may also leverage upon the remaining time and partake in any student clubs and organizations which would allow you to use your leadership and organizational skills to bring forth positive impact.

Given your school choices, Vanderbilt, UT Austin and Rochester fall under the dream category which means you have a 40-50% chance of acceptance at these schools. While the rest of the schools fall under the competitive category and you stand 60-70% chances of getting accepted into the program at these schools.

To summarize, while you have a competitive profile, you need to be aware that you will face competition from applicants having similar or maybe even better profiles, thus, to increase your chances of getting admitted to these schools you would need to ensure that you have a very strong application. A strong application through its various components such as essays, LORs and SOPs would help you to highlight your strengths and give apt justifications for your weaknesses to smooth over any flaws in your profile. Moreover, the application acts as the window through which the admission committee can peer into your skills calibre and your personality.

Lastly, since the major chances of your admission depend on the quality of your application and the second round of applications are just around the corner, you can book a FREE Consultation call with us, where our experts would help you strategize and chalk out the best course of action for your application - a plan that has helped over 2500 applicants win admits from their dream schools!

Hello everyone. I am thinking about applying for Vanderbilt MSF program, and would like your honest opinions about my profile. Just to give you a bit of context, I am currently a senior Business student in my country. The huge issue with me is that my institution isn't ranked very well in Business, though it has a very recognizable name in Medicine and other stuff. I want to break into Asset Management, Private Equity or Equity Research.
GPA: 3.3 (kinda problematic I know, but I scored either A or B in all relevant courses)
GMAT: aiming for a 700-710 hopefully
expired TOEFL: 110. 130 in the new Duolingo test.
CFA L1 candidate. I'm also planning on taking L2&3 after L1.
I had only one internship at a commercial bank. I was supposed to get an internship this past summer at a top consulting firm but it was cancelled, though I must note that I fought so hard to get it.

Do I stand a chance with this profile? I'm also considering MIT Master's in Finance.
Thank you all.

Hey kirk117,

You have a pretty great profile,

Academically your undergraduate program in Business is a great value addition. However, your GPA is slightly on the lower end, but posing the right alibi for the same, for example, showcasing proactiveness towards holistic development via your extracurriculars or shedding light on your unfortunate health issues, would allow you to overcome this drawback in your profile. While your grades do play an important part, your extracurricular activities and your other endeavours matter as well because AdComs are looking for applicants with holistically developed profiles. Thus, it is essential to highlight the endeavours you’ve taken up at the clubs, associations, fest, and events you managed or participated in during your undergrad by digging deeper into this aspect and bringing out varied skills in your profile.

As far as the GMAT goes, a score of 710 and above with 50 or more in the Quant section, would allow you to target the finance programs in top schools. You should definitely aim to score as high as you can since a strong GMAT score would bolster the AdComs confidence in your academic abilities and improve your acceptance chances.

Coming to your English language test, your scores in the TOEFL are competitive. However, I would like to inform you that most top B-schools offer a waiver for these tests in case your language of instruction during your undergraduate was English, so you might want to look into that.

As far as your internship experience goes, since Masters in Finance is a specialized master’s program and most schools prefer applicants with some experience in the field of finance, thus your internship at the local commercial bank would be a great value addition to your application. However, you would be competing against applicants with relevant experience in the field of finance from the big 4 firms. Hence, highlighting how you have gone beyond the role, any initiatives you took, and any kind of impact created to establish a connection with your goals and portray the knowledge gained from these experiences would help you put forth a strong application pitch and bring you at par with your competition. Furthermore, you could also look towards securing an internship in finance from one of the big 4 brands to make your profile more competitive. Apart from this, certifications in the field of finance like CFA most certainly showcase your undying interest in the field of finance.

Of the schools you are targeting Vanderbilt and MIT both come under the dream category. Looking at your profile you have a 50% chance of getting admitted to the schools in the dream category. Dream schools have a very stringent acceptance rate of 12-15%. Hence, it is always better to target a mix of dream, competitive and safe schools.
Hence, apart from your targeted list some other schools in the competitive category that you can target are

-UC: San Diego
-Boston Questrom
-USC: Marshall
-Fordham University
- Brandeis University

According to your profile you have a 70% chance of getting admitted in the schools in the competitive category.

Additionally, if you’re looking for safe category schools, you would need to broaden your horizons to schools from europe. Some of the schools in the safe category that you can target are:

-Skema
-Grenoble
-EDHEC

To summarize, while you have a competitive profile, you need to be aware that you will face competition from applicants having similar or maybe even better profiles, thus, to increase your chances of getting admitted to these schools you would need to ensure that you have a very strong application (consisting of - Essays, LORs and Resume) to back your profile. You need to showcase your journey, what makes you different from your peers and how you are a great value addition to the school. A strong application increases your chances of acceptance by up to 30%.

On this note, if you are looking to target the top B-schools and want to prepare a strong application that would increase your chances by at least 3 times, you can check our comprehensive all in one solution that has helped thousands of applicants get into their dream schools worldwide.

I'm going to apply to Msc Finance but I have no idea where to start and where to apply.

Please bear with me, I'm listing everything I've done with the mim-essay evaluation.

Basic profile:
Female, 20, Indian, Muslim

Academics:
Final year BBA student at a top 25 business school in India (Private)
CGPA: 9.43/10 | 4.00
GMAT 730

International Exposure:

Visited foreign countries but for leisure/travel, actually, accompanied my dad on his business meetings but I was having fun.

I know English, Hindi, French, Spanish (medium fluency, not certified, learnt through Duolingo)

Work Experience:

I have done 2 internships, one in Marketing after which I changed my career choice to Finance.

The first internship was in a marketing position at a startup as an early team, which was an endeavor in the startup ecosystem and I learnt about venture capital and equities, which resulted in a deep interest in finance.

The second internship was 2 months long, a finance internship at JP Morgan Chase and Co.

I received an intern of the month cert for the first internship.

Further education
I've done the Banking Virtual internships on InsideSherpa. It was JP Morgan and Future Impact and Citi but that's pretty useless I guess.

I have worked on many projects in financial modeling, stock trading, portfolio creation, etc, through Coursera Specializations, and I've completed the following Specializations on Coursera.

Financial Management - Uo Illinois
Investment Management - Uo Geneva
Investment and portfolio management - Rice Uni
Managerial Economics and Business Analysis - Uo Illinois
Investment Management with Python and ML - EDHEC
FinTech - Uo Michigan
Blockchain Revolution in Financial Services - INSEAD
Analysing - Numeric and Digital Literacies - Macquarie

Courses
Private Equity and Venture Capital - Bocconi
Advanced Valuation and Strategy - Rotterdam
Behavioural Finance - Duke
Financial Markets - Yale
Global Financial Crisis - Yale
Unfortunately there are many more and I feel pathetic lol.

Certified with SAS Programmer, SAS Statistical Business Analyst, working in SAS Advanced Programmer. I know Python, learning SQL, Good with Excel, learning Tableau.

Extracurricular Activities:

This is the worst part. I have never taken part in Sports because my religious parents never allowed me to. Like, zero sports. ZERO. NIL. The only physical thing I've done is Karate where I am a Black Belt.

I'm a part of the Cultural Committee of my Uni and the Finance Club which doesn't do a lot of ****.

For the volunteering part, I was a Fundraising Coordinator at an NGO for animal welfare for 2 months, after which I'm currently the Campaign Manager (one year as of now) and I manage the campaigns and create impact for sure. I was also the best Fundraiser the NGO ever had.

I presented a finance topic research paper in an IEEE conference.

I think that's it?

So I want to do an Msc. Finance, what should be my target schools and what are my chances in good universities. Also, I need a scholarship so will I have any chances in that? Mostly because, religious conservative parents.

I really don't know where to start. I'll furnish additional details if that's required. Thank you. Please consider giving me a few minutes.

Re: MS Finance Profile Evaluations [Master Thread]: Post all Profiles Here [#permalink]

Open to constructive criticism and suggestions. Thank you.

Hey Moderat,

You have a pretty decent profile.

Starting off with your academics, You have an excellent academic background. A GPA of perfect 4.0 showcases your academic prowess and your stellar academic capabilities in the field of finance. Moreover, graduating from a top 10 UK school further bolsters your profile as B schools prefer students from high ranking universities.

You also have an impressive GMAT score which further goes ahead to authenticate your academic capabilities and your quantitative and analytical skills. When it comes to programs such as MSc Finance, verbal scores don’t hold much weightage in the decision-making process, so there is no need for you to retake the exam. Your Quant score of 48 is quite good and you also have a decent cumulative score of 700 which would allow you to target most of the top schools.

Coming onto your work experience. You have relevant work experience in the field of finance that would definitely be appreciated by the admission committee. You haven’t mentioned any company name hence i can’t comment on the relevancy of their brand name. A big brand name certainly plays a part in bolstering your profile, as you’d be facing competition from applicants from big4 companies.
But in case you don’t have such brand names in your profile, you can utilize your application to draw the focus on the quality of your work. Here, talking about the roles and positions you undertook, the teams and projects you led and the impact you created in those positions would help you establish yourself as a strong candidate and help you highlight the fact that you are no less than a big4 candidate.

You have also undertaken a fair share of extracurricular activities as well. Your involvement in the investment society and CFA level 1 showcase your strong interest and passion for finance. Here talking about the kind of impact you created by working in the investment society would further highlight your leadership skills and your proactive nature. Your involvement in sports such as playing and teaching Tennis highlights your determination and fighting spirit.

Extracurricular activities are a way to showcase your initiative taking abilities and how you have emulated the theoretical knowledge you gained in classes and created a positive impact by utilizing them in real-life situations. Hence, the initiatives you have taken up highlight your holistic development in all fronts.

Given your decent profile, you can definitely target Stockholm schools of economics and since it is a competitive school, you stand a chance of 60-70% of getting into the program. However, while applying for master’s abroad it is never a good strategy to apply to just one school. One should hedge their bets wisely and apply to a mixed bunch of 6-7 schools. Since your profile is quite decent, you can additionally be targeting schools such as: -

Dream: LBS, LSE, Duke.
Competitive: Essec, ESCP, FSFM and Mannheim etc.

Another important aspect you need to focus on is to complement your profile with an equally strong application. An application, through its various components such as essays, LORs and SOPs would help you to highlight your strengths and give apt justifications for your weaknesses to smooth over any flaws in your profile. Moreover, the application acts as the window through which the admission committee can peer into your skills caliber and your personality.

Lastly, since the major chances of your admission depend on the quality of your application and the second round of admissions are just around the corner, you can book a FREE Consultation call with us, where our experts would help you strategize and chalk out the best course of action for your application - a plan that has helped over 2500 applicants win admits from their dream schools!

I have some MsFin programs that I am interested in but I am not sure about my chances with any of them.

Imperial
Manchester

Hey y604320276,

You have a pretty good profile

Academically you have a pretty great undergraduate GPA that showcases your academic prowess which coupled with your nationality and international experience of living in the USA will help differentiate you from the crowd. Most schools are looking to add diversity to their cohort and your background gives you a unique perspective which definitely provides value addition to their program. Furthermore, your undergraduate degree being in the field of finance adds further weight to your profile, since MFin is a specialised masters programs and most schools prefer applicants with a relevant academic background or work experience in finance.

Moving on, as you have not mentioned any details about your extracurricular activities, I’d like to let you know that Extracurricular participation plays an important role in strengthening your applications as B-schools are on the hunt for all-rounder profiles. Hence, it is essential to shed some light on the endeavours you have taken up at any clubs, associations, sports, fest or events you managed or participated in during your undergrad. Volunteering initiatives, certifications or internships undertaken during the course of your study would also count towards your extracurricular initiatives. Thus, you should dig deeper into this aspect and bring out varied skills in your profile or seek to build in this area if the need be.

Talking about your work as the shift manager, you can leverage it to showcase how you have taken efforts towards financing your own education and how this has taught you important skills and knowledge on self-sufficiency.

As far as your internship experience goes, you ought to explain and highlight the major projects of your work and how these experiences helped to develop and further groom your skills and knowledge. Highlight why you chose these firms, how you have gone beyond the role, any initiatives you took and any kind of impact created to establish a connection with your goals and portray the knowledge gained from these experiences. Properly highlighting this would allow you to stand at par with candidates with more extensive work experience hailing from big 4 brands. That said, connecting your work experience and your decision to pursue a masters is very important.

Apart from this, you could take up certifications like CFA and FRM to showcase your passion for the field of finance. Moreover, getting an internship at one of the big financial firms would also help bolster your profile further. Since most of the competition you face would have relevant experience in the field of finance from big brand firms, these certifications and internships would bring you at par with them.

As far as the GMAT goes, a 680 is a pretty competitive score and would allow you to target most top B-schools provided you have an impressive score with respect to the quantitative section. Having said that a score of 49+ is what would strengthen your pitch for an MFin.

Coming to shortlisting the right schools for your profile, whenever you are applying to schools abroad, it is always better to target a mix of dream, competitive, and safe schools. That said, from the schools, you’re targeting I would like to define your chances of acceptance as per the categories:

Dream (40-50%): LSE, LBS
Competitive (60-70%): Imperial, Manchester Edinburgh, Illinois, Boston, Ohio, Washington

As the application for the LBS MFA second round is approaching shall I wait in order to strengthen my application? Open to constructive criticism and suggestions. Thank you.

Hey dubi0711,

Your profile is pretty decent. To start off with the strong suits in your profile, your CGPA of 28/30 in undergraduate is very impressive and showcases your academic prowess. Also, you have graduated from Bocconi University, which being one of the top universities in Italy would work in your favour as schools tend to pick students from top schools of each country.

Another significant aspect that schools focus on is extracurricular activities as they are looking for a comprehensive profile. Hence, it is essential to shed some light on the endeavours taken up at any clubs, associations, sports, fest, or events you managed or participated in during your undergraduate. Volunteering initiatives, certifications, or internships undertaken during the course of your study would also count towards your extracurricular initiatives. That said, you have a good amount of extra-curricular activities. From being an Associate Of University Investment Club to being an ex-professional driver who has participated in 4 world championships, your endeavours showcase your leadership responsibilities as well as diverse activities in your profile. However, you ought to elaborate on the roles & responsibilities you took, exposure you received here and what were your major takeaways in order to portray a well-rounded profile.

Moreover, you can also take up some NGO or volunteering participation. This will help portray the socially responsible aspect of your personality, a trait that can vouch for your ability of being a great future leader. Considering your aspiration for M.Fin, you need to focus on other financial aspects that showcase your ability in quant and finance. You can also take up some certifications in finance like CFA or FRM.

Coming to the professional front, your internships in Sales, Wealth Management sounds pretty interesting, but you need to be mindful of your competitors who will possess experiences from the Big-4 firms. So in order to stand in par with your competitors, highlight why you chose these internships, what projects are done so far, how you have gone beyond the role, any initiatives you took, and any kind of impact created to establish a connection with your goals, and portray the knowledge gained from these experiences. Thus, you should focus on the quality of your work and how you went above and beyond and bloomed in the role. Explaining all this well can be a differentiator for you, and help you stand out in a crowd.

Speaking of your GMAT score, considering the schools that you wish to target, 670 is a bit on the lower end. A score of 690+ is what will work in your favour. Moreover, for HEC, you require at least a minimum of 710 to be eligible. Thus, a retake is definitely what you should go for as it will widen your scope to get admissions in top-notch schools. That said, practice is key to achieving perfection. I would suggest taking as many mocks as possible and attempting all sections collectively to get a fair idea of where you need to buckle up. Keep in mind that you maintain or further improve your Quant score.

Coming to your school choices, HEC, LSE and LBS come under the dream category, while Imperial comes under the competitive category and EDHEC can be clubbed under the safe category. The dream schools have a stringent acceptance rate of 40-50%, competitive has 60-70% whereas safe schools have the acceptance rate of 90%. That said, you have made a good choice to go for a mixed bag of dream, competitive and safe schools, as it would result in hedging your bets wisely.

Regarding your query for LBS, I don’t see the need to wait to improve an already good profile, rather I would suggest applying in the earlier rounds as you have a higher chance of getting accepted and bagging scholarships too.
Lastly, while you have a good profile, you need to be aware that you will be facing competition from equally good or even better profiles, which is why, you need to complement your profile with a strong application that includes essays, letter of recommendation, statement of purpose, and resume that highlights all your strong suits, gives reasoning for the weaknesses, and displays how you’d be a good addition to the cohort. As a matter of fact, your application can boost your chances of acceptance by 3x!

On this note, if you have any further queries, I would suggest you take up our FREE consultation call where we can help you to figure out the best course of action for you to realize your goals.

Hi ariva99,

First and foremost, you have a very diverse background of dual nationality which is a unique aspect of your profile and could pose as a great value addition to the schools’ diverse cohort. Furthermore, your GPA score of 3.9 definitely showcases your exceptional calibre in the academic front. Additionally, you have also mentioned your international experience in the form of an exchange program at Illinois where you scored a perfect GPA of 4.0 and was included in the dean’s list which again highlights your adaptability, consistency and drives to excel in different environments. An international experience of any form is always appreciated by the schools as it showcases your broadened perspectives and knowledge of different cultures. Moreover, you are also very fluent in different languages including English which is proven by your decent score in TOEFL. This aspect of your profile surely helps to showcase how you will be adaptable to the school and how you will be able to bring in diverse perspectives as well.

Coming to your work experience, you have mentioned that you have contributed and revolutionized the family business through your innovative initiatives which are very impressive, to say the least. Moreover, you can elaborate on how you were involved in various facets of the business and how you helped it grow as well. You can also mention the kind of impacts you created and also what were your major takeaways from working in your family business in order to present more clarity on your capabilities and achievements. Speaking about your internship experience, while it is quite decent enough, you will still be facing a lot of competition from applicants who have worked in big four companies like KPMG, EY, DELOITTE and PWC. To set yourself at par with your competitors, you can focus on highlighting the kind of projects you handled, the value you added to these projects, the skills you gained and the major takeaways you were able to attain throughout your internships.

Furthermore, when it comes to your extracurricular participation, you have very diverse endeavours in your profile ranging from sports to leading important presentations to actively participating in community services. All in all, this showcases your initiative-taking abilities which you can further use to highlight your leadership skills, teamwork skills, your contributions to these endeavours and your major takeaways from the same. Additionally, you can also extend your proactiveness with respect to grooming your knowledge and skills by taking up relevant certifications in the field you want to build your career in which will definitely work in your favour.

Moving on, when talking about expected GMAT score of 680, I would highly suggest that you try to target at least a minimum of 690 as it will allow you to target most of the top-notch B-schools. More importantly, you do possess an overall profile for the Stockholm School of Economics with a 60-70% chance of your acceptance. However, you need to be focusing on the profile by backing it up with a very strong application since there are many applicants out there with an equal or better profile than you. To put it simply, you need to highlight the kind of strengths you possess, what makes you stand out, how you’ll be a good value addition to the school and also justify your weaknesses and failures by pointing out how you were lacking in certain areas and later how you worked to overcome them.

All in all, you need to pay extra attention to your application which consists of your Essay, Lor and Resume as they carry 30% of an impact on your chances of bagging an admit. Furthermore, you should also target a mix of other dream, competitive and safe category schools so that you have more chances of getting a positive response from at least one or two schools.

That being said, you can take up a FREE profile evaluation to get an idea of how to enhance your profile further and also receive personalised suggestions on the schools that you can target based on your profile compatibility and interests.
