Hi everyone, I just finished my interview with a GSB Alumnus in Richmond, VA. I think I did well, but there were a couple of things I found very strange. Here's the debrief -

He introduced himself and talked about his backgound etc for 5mins. He told me that this is going to be a friendly interview and he is just gonna measure my fit to GSB. Then he asked me only 3 questions. Career progress in '30 words', why MBA and why GSB. That's it!!! No behaviorial type questions, nothing on ECs, nothing on how I will contribute to GSB...

He then opened it up to me..briefly asked where else i am applying. Said CBS isn't a good fit for me but Kellogg and W are, and GSB is the best school for me...And then he gave a briefing on what I should do incase i get waitlisted or dinged. I found that very strange...if this were a job interview, I knew that would mean DING, but here I don't know. I had good answers to all his questions, but I could have structured my answers better. The entire inteview was like 20minutes long, and i felt it was over before it even started...

Anyway, that's it for my GSB application...Now wait till March26th.

ujjib

just curious, but does this guy work at a bank in richmond? i almost interviewed in richmond for r1.

Yes, he does...he was a PE guy in NYC before he moved to this bank's securities division in Richmond. Seemed pretty impressive..and he was very knowledgable of the admissions process. worked on adcom when he was in GSB...

I often hear freedom in academic choices and flexible curricula in reference to Chicago GSB. What these really mean?

I would say it was a good sign, very good. He's kinda rooting for you, and making sure that even if you fail this year (due to reasons besides the interview) you do well next year.

looks like most people are finished with their chicago interviews. Will the adcoms send out final decisions much earlier than the deadline like R1 this year or will they stick to March 26? Any idea what happened last year ?

I had my interview yesterday. Reached home late last night after multiple flight delays.
Thanks to Rhyme for playing the gracious host, before and after the interview :)
Our man has been struggling with difficult decisions on which internship to pick. I hope all of us reach that stage someday!

And finally the interview itself. There were some surprises but we pretty much covered all the expected topics. She dug through projects on the resume and wanted to know when/how I led teams, leadership style etc. Also, got into an extensive discussion on my goal (ent'ship) & how it would be different from existing ones.

Other questions I can recall:
- how would your colleagues describe you?
- what matters most?
- what is unique about you?

She didn't ask about clubs or specifically how I would contribute so I had to weave when she answered my questions. She stopped writing at that point, so I don't know if it really matters. Overall, I felt it went okay.

p.s.
poochandi - My cab came at exactly 3.30 so I think I just missed you. Hope your interview went well.

Back from my stupendous Mexico trip and now heading off to South East Asia.

Seems all is quiet on the Chicago front.

BTW.. I got pulled up my Policia Federale near Cancun..... I must say.. they were the nicest cops who have pulled me up for speeding.... they let me go with a warning..

Oh ya, I was watching my guilty pleasure, Madre Luna on TV last week and was half expecting you to come on screen.

I can totally picture you on a Telenovela. You'd carry the hispanic look very well.

I improved my spanish really well.. and I am thinking of registering in some spanish classes in mexico...

everyone had the shock of their lives when they found out I was Indian..most folks thought I was one of their "hermanos"

Mexico is now over run with Italians, French and German tourists... looks like a mini Axis power convention of sorts.... Not a single American soul in sight,..I was dying to see some middle aged baldies in T shirts and jeans...

I found out that 30000 Italians live in Playa del Carmen out of a population of 500,000. One wonders what they r doing there.. most run hotels, bars and restaurants... remnants of the Mafia families that came ages ago to invest in the pharmacy business...(straight from the horse's mouth.. aka one Italian dude after 3 bottles of wine)

Anyone gng to Mexico...for vacation... skip cancun and head to tulum or punta allen and xcalak.. simply gorgeous.. roads are horrible.. no electricity after night.. but the best beaches..and tons of single Spanish girls.. coming from Spain...no clue what they were doing there.. some r staying for 3 months!!!!

welcome back dude! was wondering why there haven't been many posts from you lately....Now i know...
Did you get that job you've been looking for? Cheers and have a swell time in South East Asia....

I think it will be quiet for a while on the GSB front for all, now that most interviews are over.

Only one required course and twenty electives to get your MBA is what they mean.
I dare say anything more...for only Rhyme holds that privilege... ;-)

Rhyme,
Could thy enlighten Asaf?

Thanks helg. I hope it is indeed a good sign....Actually another friend is interviewing with the same person tomorrow, so I will have some kind of benchmark after learning his experience.

As for whether we will get our results ahead of time, I think somebody asked Rose the same question - either in one of the Chats or on the GSB discussion forums. And she answered that they may do it again for R2, but it would be a maximum of a week before 26th.
