Ok I am finally in Chicago. It is absolutely FREEZING. Snow snow everywhere. How do people live in this weather !!!! To add to my misery there are NO internet cafes anywhere ??? Free wifi everywhere (and my laptop is back in Sydney). I haven't had anysleep throughout last day / night and have flown 22 hours in total.

My hotel (if I can call it that) is scary. The first two channels in it are in Spanish - and most of the staff and guests speak better spanish than english. Paying 7.50 USD for 15 mts of Internet. I need HELP !!!!!

Oh also where are the people ? I roamed around on a Saturday night and found the streets very sedate. I must be hanging in the wrong spots - walked all the way on State ave (I think) and on Sth Michigan ave.

Whats going on Chicago siders ???

Where in the world are you staying? Internet cafes? No... none ... I will pm you my ph #. If you get the msg, call me and I'll help you find somewhere to go. It sounds like you are staying somewhere strange.

Dude. You should have brought your laptop! :P

Sounds like you're staying in some really strange place. Are you sure you're in Chicago? Maybe you're in Madrid by accident or something! Hahaha

Good luck with your interview mate.

Sounds like you're having fun.

helg.. great interview.

bsd_lover and for others looking to get connected in the GSB:- I paid $7.5 in the I-house and got guest wireless access for a day (24 hours). It worked in the I-house (previous evening) and in the GSB building (next day). I am not sure if we can purchase this service in the GSB if we stay somewhere else.

I cannot say enough good things about the I-House at UoC. Cheap, good, convenient! :)

bsd, I don't know about the other things, but you are right about how cold Chicago is... one of the reason California is looking better and better every day (it's sooooo warm here... 70 degree weather :P)

Thanks for the support guys. I was able to use the apple shop suggested by buffdaddy in the morning. I also caught up with a friend who helped me with a laptop so its good now.

It seems my hotel is not in the better part of town; I walked up to the Magnificent mile today and its like being a different city. Really nice - really livable (apart from all the snow and cold wind). I really should have listened to nick_sun when he adviced me to cancel my booking at the Congress and get something else. Never mind, only 2 more nights and then I'm off to NYC. The temperature's eased up as well; its a warm 10 degrees celsius today as opposed to the "cool" 0 yesterday.

I'll try to be in downtown Magnificent mile side most of today. If anyone wants to catch up here, pm me.

Will be on campus almost all day tommorrow. Will most definitely catch up with you rhyme (unless you wanna catch up for a quick beer tonight).

That is warm. I think the high was 0 celsius when I was there. Most days were -6 (daytime) to -13(the coldest night) while I was there.

The magnificent mile area is pretty fun. There is a Ghiradelli shop up by the water tower that has amazing sundaes.

Just wanted to share my experience from my alumni interview today.

The interview lasted 1.5 hours but it certainly didn't feel like that. It was entirely conversational as we shared common ground in our background and MBA goals. We talked in length about about the industry I'd like to target and where the market is going. He asked me the following questions from what I remember:

Tell me about yourself (with a few follow up questions based on my walk through of my resume)
Why MBA?
Why Chicago?
What do you plan to do post-graduation?
What other schools did you apply to?

The interview was very friendly and if the culture is anything like what I experienced during my interview, then I'm looking forward to Chicago GSB. Above all, make sure you know why Chicago is the school for you.

kry, cant beat the beach weather we have been having the bay area. Can you? This weekend was AMAZING. Took a long drive along the CA-1 coastline. A beach every mile, and each with fantastic views. Sigh! I am going to miss all this when I go to school.

Reason #108 to curse myself for not applying to Haas FT.

@ helg: It sounds like your GSB interview went really well! AWESOME! I really hope you get in. You so deserve it.
@ bsd: Now that you've got yourself a laptop and an internet connection, you can stay on these forums all day long :-D

In other news, I went on a lovely trek (hike) last weekend. I got back at 4:00 AM this morning tired, hungry, dirty as hell(!) and sleepy. I'll post a couple of pics sometime later. Quick question to the American outdoor enthusiasts here: how 'wild' is the trekking in America? I ask 'cause here, when we head out, we are pretty much on our own. And we don't have laid out trails. So we ask the (usually) very helpful locals before we head out and then find our own way. Even in emergencies, we are at least 24 hours away from any kind of professional medical aid. I was speaking to this friend of mine who lives in the US and he said that there, everything is more or less 'set' for you and you just have to "go on the trek (as you would on any other trip) and come back". I want to know if any of you have had any different experiences while hiking in the US.

Heck yes, besides it was only sub zero if you think of temperature in celsius. It was a balmy high single digits to low 20s in my mind. ;)

Its mostly pretty set. You would have to be pretty remote (read: Alaska) here to be 24 hours away from aid. Heck with a rented satellite phone and GPS transponder you're probably never more than 2 hours away from rescue by helicopter. You can go back country hiking, but there is still usually a trail and set food cache locations and the like.

oh NC, I was always wondering (and asking you) why you didn't apply to Haas FT... but I guess it's too late to think about that now... Would you consider Haas PT over Ross FT?
