Can we do an admit weekend roll call?

I'll be there. I am also attending the Women's get-together on Thursday night.

Rhyme,

How is the banking recruiting? What do your peers say about the employment prospects in the next 2 to 5 years?

Congratulations Rhyme!
Now that the firms have made their choices, it should feel comforting to know that it is now your turn to choose!

good work rhyme! how does this accomplishment compare with getting into GSB? :P

The recruiting cycle, unless you are doing banking, really is brutally long and painfully evil. This wasn't the 100% perfect perfect job for me -- its the right function, sort-of the right industry but the wrong city. They do say though, function, industry, location, pick 2. I consider myself lucky for having nailed 2 out of 3 (or maybe like 1.8/3)....

I haven't completely discounted my other offers - at least not just yet. Its really down to two pretty interesting opportunities. They compare in function -- but they differ in city and industry.

Is banking easy then? Or are you speaking specifically about consulting recruiting?

As for function, industry, location, pick 2. I thought the point of going to b-school was to be able to pick 2.5 out of 3... otherwise, I already have 2 out of the 3 at my current job. :P

Hey Rhyme, congratulations!

Re: Admit Weekend, I can make it on the Saturday for sure, and possibly Friday, depending on the work schedule. The wife is making an appearance as well.

Banking aint easy, but it is at least condensed. With banking you have a week of fast and furious interviewing where offers sometimes come hours after you've finished your last interview.

In the GM world, it is far more long and drawn out. For instance, I started recruiting with one firm in mid January, had a first round with them, then a second round about a week later, and now -- in late Feb, they want to invite me for a third round -- and only because I told them I had exploding offers, or they would have waited till mid March. Thats a very long and drawn out process. There are still probably a half dozen firms that I haven't heard from.

I had my interview today. Pretty typical, nothing terrifying like some of the guys got last week. I think it went ok, although it was pretty short. If they were willing to admit meet before, I don't think I did anything to dissuade them. If they weren't, I doubt I talked them into it.

I wanted to stay to have lunch with students, but I needed to go back to the hotel to move rooms (they gave us a smoking room last night because they were booked up). Hopefully GSB won't hold that against me.

There was a pretty decent crowd there for it being a friday. I think there were 5 other applicants there to interview for the same time slot.

My wife and I are enjoying Chicago even though it is cold. After walking around last night without a hat on I was afraid that my ears might fall off before I could make it to my interview. And to think, it has warmed up 15 degrees since last week.

folks,
had my interview yesterday on campus. Was interviewed by a second year student. There were alums and current students interviewing. There must have been about 100 people waiting for their interviews. Overall i think my interview went well. After my ding from kellogg, i spoke with my K interviewer for a candid feedback who gave some good pointers. I also spoke with a K alum who was kind enough to do an impromptu interview over phone and pointed some very valid points. So in the Chicago interview, i think i was better prepared and did much better. There were only 5 questions:
1. tell me what you have done so far and why do you need an MBA
2. why GSB
3. what is your leadership style
4. In your current project, have you ever come across a person from work whose help you needed but who was not willing to help? How did you approach such situation
5. Complete the sentence: a) my 2 years at GSB would be a waste if..... b) my 2 years at GSB would be a great success if ...

Over all, i think i was able to tie in my work experience, GSBs offerings, futures plans and my needs a little better this time than my K interview. Now its time for the wait.

I had my interview yesterday on campus as well. I was asked the same questions minus 5.b) and I was also asked:

-What clubs would i join
-Talk about a time that I made a mistake
-Talk about a difficult relationship in one of your leadership experiences and how you worked through it.

On a side note. While I was at the airport, I sat next to a guy that was on a message board that looked identical to gmatclub.com. I looked over and said, "is that Gmatclub", the guy was chinese so I couldn't understand anything on his screne. He says no and then we end up talking. It so happens that he is an MBA student at Chicago in his last quarter. What are the chances of that happening?
