Hi All,

I am a MBA aspirant. I wish to do MBA from top US B-schools in MIS/Consultancy.

I am an Indian, male. Working in Europe from past 2.5 years.

My GMAT score is 710. TWA - 5.

My career profile is as follows :-

a) total 5.5 years of work exp. in IT. India (3 yrs) and Cyprus (2.5 yrs).

b) I have worked for companies which are leaders in their technology domain and have lot of fortune 500 companies in their client base.

c)Personally, I have demonstrated leadership skills in my current company. I have got appreciation awards too for my work.

d) I have been travelling to customer sites to understand their business needs.

On academic side, my grades have been average.
and I didn't get much time to do any community service work.

Could you please tell me, is my current profile sufficient enough to get me an admission into a top B- schools for MIS/Consultancy.

What are the areas of improvement for me ? Also how important is my academic record ? Can it be compensated by good GMAT score and a carrer profile ?

How about your community involvement outside of work or school? That will be really important for you to show, given how many applicants there are with profiles very similar to yours.

As long as your grades weren't bad, I wouldn't worry about it. Since you did well on the GMAT, that should be okay. You may want to provide a reason why your gardes weren't great, if you have a good reason.

But really focus on showing how you're more than just a tech consultant. Hopefully you have some community involvement or other non-work-related things to show to prove this.

Thanks for addressing to my queries. I have another query.

In order to show my uniqueness among the thousands of techie profiles,
can I take help of my hobbies or it has to be only through community service work.

Also could you please tell me the top business schools in U.S which are good for IT/Consultancy.

Greetings,

Writing about hobbies is a great way to distinguish an applicant from others, especially if the hobbies reveal something that the candidate is passionate about.

Regarding strong MBA programs, do you have a sense of which specific firms you would like to work for?

I am not aware of many IT/consultancy firms, except firm like (PWC )
Price Water House Cooper.

My long term plan is to be a business analyst in a consultancy firm and then later a entrepreneur.

Although entrepreneurship is a distant goal, but still want to target
B- schools which have this specializations in it.

But the primary focus is Technology consultancy.

Hi,

Penn placed a large number of students at Deloitte Consulting

Michigan and UCLA placed several students at both Deloitte Consulting and Diamond Cluster.

Cornell, UNC, Berkeley and USC all placed several students at Deloitte Consulting.

UCLA has a strong entrepreneurship program but it is hardly alone in this regard.

USC has traditionally been strong with the accounting/assurance firms

Gobs: I know few people with your profile, and few people from Cyprus who have been selected at top10 B-schools, probably I can patch you up with them for more insight into this.
