The term underrepresented minority is generally limited to Blacks, Mexican-Americans, and Native Americans, but the Explore Diversity event does not specify that someone must be an URM to attend. Maybe shadowsjc can clarify where he got his information, but I like to think that diversity means a mixture of people from all backgrounds - URM, LGBT, Asians, Indians, and even rural white people.

You're right, it is probably targeted towards all diversity groups. I was thinking of other events in the past that focused on URMs (which, by the way includes all Hispanic Americans, not just Mexican-Americans).

:-D

I love how adude and shadowsjc is tag-teaming and answering in this thread.

I was quite lonely last year...

Anyway you two, have fun at orientation. I know it's coming up. You guys will love the first few weeks.

I will check in more often after next week when my internship commitment ends.

I just like giving you a hard time, but apparently it doesn't count at med school :-D Persons of European descent of Spanish origin are defined as European Americans.

Under-represented minority - currently includes African Americans, Mexican-Americans, Native Americans (American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians), Pacific Islanders, and mainland Puerto Ricans

different school programs define a URM in different ways. business schools differ from med schools and traditionally extend URM status to all hispanic americans, not just mexicans and puerto ricans.

That's fascinating. Maybe it's more common for someone who considers themself Hispanic to take up medical school rather than business school for some cultural reason.

I'll be applying in Round 2 (most likely) for the Silver Scholars program! :)

Does anyone have an opinion about whether I would have a higher chance in Round 1? I know that the admittance is split pretty evenly between the first two rounds, but for the SS program, which I believe only accepts around 20 of their applicants per year, would it be more advantageous to apply in R1?

Hmm.. I'm having trouble creating a new account as a reapplicant. It keeps directing me to login with my existing account, whereupon I'm presented with the summary of my old application and the reminder that I didn't get in last year... Does anyone know if that is refreshed later on, or if I have to create an account with completely new information?

In terms of the difference between "Marketing" among bschools, read here:
rankings-for-marketing-mbas-98223.html#p758524

In terms of marketing opportunities at YSOM, you will have your chances to typical brand management opportunities at beauty/fragrance companies, and CPGs, etc.
