Hi All,

A late entrant to the forum.. I have also applied to Oxford in R1. Received the confirmation stating my application is complete and will hear back around 29 Oct.

How many others have applied to SBS? Somehow, I am not able to locate a separate current year thread for oxford on any of the forums..

Habeebee,

I received an application submission confirmation email from them:

"...
We will be in touch with you shortly after the interview decision deadline (29 October 2010) with their decision.
..."

I think we will have to wait for another 10 days to hear more from Oxford..

Can anyone talk about the social aspects of each school? I am trying to figure out if there are many things to do for fun, especially off campus. Both of the cities seem to be kinda boring and isolated.

Oxford is definitely bigger, and its city center resembles more that of a small city. Cambridge has a small-town feel, which I prefer, even if I come from a larger city myself. The Cambridge program itself has so much student-driven activity at the moment it is impossible to do everything. Regarding evening activites, people do formal hall swaps, college bar swaps, go to the movies or to the theater or to dinner together. There are classical concerts and pop/rock concerts, clubbing, and a whole lot of cultural events such as exhibs, talks, seminars, and excellent debates at the Cambridge union society. Naturally, each college also has its own sphere, including societies, sports clubs, and larger events.

And frankly, the MBA program is so rigorous you just won't have the time to do even the things you cherry-picked form the possibilities offered. Sad, but true.

RE: Cambridge Letters of Recommendation

Cambridge asks for one supervisor referee and one peer referee. Who are you all using for the peer referee, and are you treating the letter differently? How have you coached your peer referees differently from your supervisor referees?

Thanks!

How many hours per day are you spending in class or working on school assignments? Do you have to go to class on weekends?

Hi! Michaelmas is hell, but I like it. We have class 9-12.30 and 14-17.30 most days. Some days only half days and a couple of days we're off. However, we also have careers sessions during lunch and in the evenings, as well as leadship talks and other activities and special interest group meetings, so the average day is about 9 hours. Sometimes 5, sometimes 11. Tough classes demand 1-2 hours of reading the night before, and in any case most classes require prereading to be done before coming to class. Plus case studies, competitions, etc... so it is a wonder I have managed to keep weekends off until now. ;)
